May 2024 Auto Sales: Tata Punch Tops Compact SUV Segment In India
The Indian compact SUV market continues to be a battleground for manufacturers, with strong showings from both established and new players. In May 2024, the Tata Punch emerged as the segment leader, showcasing its growing popularity among Indian car buyers.
In May 2024, the Tata Punch emerged as the best-selling compact SUV in India, with 18,949 units sold. This marks a 70 per cent increase from May 2023 when 11,124 units were sold. The Punch's strong performance highlights its popularity in the Indian market.

The Maruti Suzuki Brezza followed closely, selling 14,186 units in May 2024. This figure represents a 6 per cent increase from the 13,398 units sold in May 2023. Meanwhile, the Maruti Suzuki Fronx secured third place with 12,681 units sold, a 29 per cent rise from 9,863 units sold the previous year.
The Tata Nexon came in fourth with 11,457 units sold, a 21 per cent drop compared to 14,423 units in May 2023. The Mahindra XUV 3XO (XUV 300), which began customer deliveries last month, reached the 10,000-unit mark, showing a substantial 95 per cent growth from 5,125 units sold last year.

The Hyundai Venue ranked sixth with 9,327 units, a 9 per cent drop from last year's 10,213 units. The Hyundai Exter debuted in seventh place with 7,697 units sold. The Kia Sonet took eighth place with 7,433 units, marking a 10 per cent decrease from 8,251 units the previous year.
The Mahindra Thar secured ninth place with 5,750 units sold, a 34 per cent increase from 4,296 units. The Nissan Magnite rounded out the top ten with 2,211 units, a 16 per cent decline from 2,618 units sold last year.
