Tata Punch EV Vs Citroen eC3: Powertrain, Range, Features & More
If you're in the market for an electric vehicle (EV) in India, you're likely considering the latest entrant in the segment, the Tata Punch EV. Tata Motors, already recognized as India's front-running EV manufacturer, has bolstered its portfolio with this new offering.
The Punch EV, or Punch.ev as it's been marketed, is already causing quite a stir, challenging both electric and internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles in the competitive Rs 11 lakh to Rs 15 lakh price range.

The Tata Punch EV prices start from Rs 10.99 lakh and goes up to Rs 14.5 lakh (ex-showroom). It's not just any other electric car; the Punch EV is set to rattle the very foundations of both the EV and ICE markets with its anticipated surge in popularity and demand.
When we get into specifics, the Punch EV's main adversary is the Citroen eC3, and to a lesser degree, the Tiago EV, which currently holds the title for India's best-selling electric car. However, the MG Comet, with its unique 3-door configuration, doesn't quite match up to the Punch EV in terms of direct comparison.

The Punch EV outshines its rivals by offering more across the board. Tata has unveiled the Punch EV in 5 distinct trim levels, or 'Personas' – Smart, Smart+, Adventure, Empowered, and Empowered+. What's more, Tata cleverly includes a 7.2kW AC charger and a sunroof as optional extras, each available for an additional Rs 50,000.
The base model of Punch EV is equipped with a 25kWh battery, while the Long Range (LR) variant boasts a 35kWh battery. This platform, the Acti.ev, is India's first to be exclusively designed for electric vehicles, unshared with any ICE models.

The LR model's performance is particularly noteworthy, offering a peak power of 120.7bhp and a torque of 190Nm, capable of accelerating from 0 to 100km/h in just 9.5 seconds. Additionally, the Punch EV LR reaches a top speed of 140km/h, surpassing its competition.
Performance is further enhanced in the Punch EV with the addition of rear disc brakes in the LR model. It also provides ample storage with a 366L boot space, more than both the eC3 and the Tiago EV.
On a single charge, the standard Punch EV can travel up to 215km, while the LR variant can stretch to a remarkable 421km. By comparison, the Citroen eC3 and Tiago EV offer ranges of 320km and 315km respectively.

All three cars come with the CCS2 standard charging socket. While the larger battery packs in the Punch EV mean slightly longer charging times with AC chargers, it also boasts the fastest 10-80% charge time of just 56 minutes when using a fast DC charger.
Features That Set Punch EV Apart
Where the Punch EV really shines is in its interior and features. While the Citroen eC3 only offers a 10.2-inch touchscreen display with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, the Punch EV is in a league of its own.
It boasts luxurious amenities such as ventilated seats, leatherette upholstery, a new steering wheel design from Nexon with an illuminated logo, an optional sunroof, automatic headlights and wipers, projector LED headlights, tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), an air purifier, and a host of other cutting-edge features.
The Punch EV not only offers a full-width LED DRL with a welcoming and goodbye function but also includes a 360-degree camera with blindspot monitoring, a fully configurable TFT instrument screen, mood lighting, cornering lights, and a plethora of other advanced features.
In terms of pricing, the Punch EV justifies its cost compared to the Tiago EV, and offers a much stronger proposition in terms of performance, range, and features. The Citroen eC3, with its higher base price, comes with a 29.2kWh battery pack but ultimately falls short of the Punch EV's robust offerings.
In conclusion, the Tata Punch EV is not just another EV – it's a game-changer. With its competitive pricing and unmatched features, it's set to lead the electric revolution on Indian roads. Whether you're an EV enthusiast or a traditional ICE supporter, the Punch EV is a vehicle that demands attention and deserves serious consideration.
