Tata Motors has been pioneering the electric vehicle (EV) revolution in India with an impressive portfolio that has seen the likes of the Nexon EV establish a strong foothold in the market. The automotive giant currently boasts a commanding lead with over 70% of the EV market share.

With an eye on sustaining this dominance, Tata is set to introduce new EV models, including the highly anticipated Tata Punch EV, along with the future releases of the Harrier EV, Safari EV, and Curvv EV.

Revealing the Off-Road Prowess of the Tata Punch EV

In a recent teaser on Instagram, Tata Motors showcased the formidable off-road capabilities of the Tata Punch EV. The electric vehicle segment often faces skepticism regarding the durability and ruggedness of EVs compared to traditional internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles.

Dispelling these doubts, the Punch EV demonstrated its proficiency in navigating through challenging terrains, including an uneven track, an articulation test, and a mud and gravel dirt track, culminating with a successful water crossing test. This robust performance serves to reinforce the credibility of EVs in demanding conditions.

Introducing the 'acti.ev' EV Architecture

Distinct from other Tata electric models like the Tiago EV, Tigor EV, and Nexon EV, which are adaptations of ICE platforms, the Punch EV is built on an innovative pure EV architecture named 'acti.ev’.

This platform is geared towards enhancing performance, technology, versatility, and spatial efficiency. It features a dense, orthogonal battery pack meticulously designed for maximum space optimization and performance, adhering to stringent global safety standards.

The acti.ev architecture promises to support a variety of car body types and offers an impressive driving range between 300 to 600 kilometers, with configurations available in front-wheel drive (FWD), rear-wheel drive (RWD), and all-wheel drive (AWD). Additionally, it accommodates fast charging capabilities up to 150 kW, enabling users to add approximately 100 kilometers of range in a mere 10 minutes.

Tata Punch EV: A Peek Inside

The Tata Punch EV's interior reveals a host of features inspired by its cousin, the Nexon EV. The Empowered+ variant will boast dual 10.25-inch displays, while the Empowered variant will come equipped with a single 10.25-inch infotainment screen paired with a 7-inch digital instrument cluster.

The vehicle also introduces a refreshed dashboard design, including a new touch-sensitive air conditioning control panel, and the stylish 2-spoke steering wheel featuring a backlit Tata emblem. The reveal also hints at new dual-tone upholstery with additional interior theme options likely to vary by variant.

The Tata Punch EV is slated for launch by the end of the current month, with an introductory price tag around Rs 12 lakh. This positions it just above the Citroen eC3, which is priced starting at Rs 11.61 lakh.
