Tata Nexon Bolsters Lineup With New Automatic Variants, Eyes Larger Market Share

Tata Motors has recently enhanced the Tata Nexon lineup by introducing five new AMT (Automated Manual Transmission) variants. This move aims to strengthen its position in the competitive Indian SUV market, particularly against rivals such as Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Mahindra XUV300, Nissan Magnite, and Renault Kiger. With the addition of these variants, the Tata Nexon seeks to appeal to a broader customer base by offering a wider range of options.

Tata Nexon's New AMT Variants

The new variants include Smart+ Petrol AMT, Pure Petrol AMT, Pure Diesel AMT, Pure S Petrol AMT, and Pure S Diesel AMT. This expansion allows for more flexibility in gearbox options across different personas of the Nexon, namely Smart and Pure, which were previously limited to manual transmission options. The introduction of these automatic variants comes with the aim of enhancing the sales proposition of the Nexon.

The pricing strategy for these new variants is aggressive. The Smart+ Petrol AMT variant, now the most affordable automatic option, is priced from Rs. 10 lakh (ex-showroom), making it Rs. 1.7 lakh cheaper than the previous entry-level automatic variant, the Creative Petrol AMT.

For diesel enthusiasts, the Pure Diesel AMT variant is now available for Rs. 11.80 lakh (ex-showroom), Rs. 1.2 lakh less than the previous base diesel automatic variant, Creative Diesel AMT.

Variety and Options

With these additions, Tata Nexon boasts a staggering number of variants, potentially the highest among cars sold in India, and possibly even globally. The total count, including 2 engine options, 4 gearbox choices, 4 main personas, 2 feature packs (+ and S), Dark Editions, and their variations, reaches an overwhelming 102 variants. The upcoming introduction of CNG variants will further increase this number.

The engine lineup remains unchanged, with the 1.2L 3-cylinder Turbo Petrol engine producing 118 bhp and 170 Nm of torque, and the 1.5L 4-cylinder Diesel engine delivering 113 bhp and 260 Nm of torque. Both engines are available with multiple transmission options, ensuring there's a Nexon for almost every preference and requirement.

DriveSpark Thinks

As one of India's best-selling SUVs, the Tata Nexon has made a significant impact on the market. Its comprehensive range of variants, coupled with competitive pricing, positions it as a strong contender in its segment. The introduction of the new AMT variants is a strategic move by Tata Motors to capture a larger share of the highly competitive SUV market in India.
