Tata Motors' ATLAS Platform: A Foundation For Innovative Vehicle Design
Tata Motors has introduced a new vehicle architecture named ATLAS (Adaptive Tech Forward Lifestyle Architecture) with the Curvv coupe-SUV. This platform supports various body styles and powertrain options, forming the foundation for Tata's future ICE vehicles, including the upcoming Tata Sierra.
The ATLAS platform can accommodate vehicles ranging from 3.9 meters to 4.6 meters in length, with different wheelbase and width configurations. It is versatile enough to support coupe SUVs like the Curvv, as well as SUVs, sedans, and hatchbacks.

Focus on Safety and Technology
Tata Motors emphasizes the safety features of the ATLAS platform. According to Savarkar, "The ATLAS uses a continuous framework which eliminates any abrupt changes in the load path for better safety." In case of a crash, impact loads are distributed through multiple paths to ensure uniform performance.
The platform also integrates advanced technology. It includes an integrated cockpit-to-wheel controller that supports multiple displays and a centralized body controller with over 24 PCUs. Additionally, it supports future technologies with an advanced electric architecture and cloud platform.
Powertrain Options and Market Expansion
ATLAS can accommodate various powertrains, including petrol and diesel engines, both with manual and automatic transmissions. This flexibility allows Tata Motors to expand its market reach significantly.
Currently, Tata Motors aims to increase its addressable market from 53 per cent to 65 per cent after launching vehicles based on this new platform. The company plans to cater to 80 per cent of the addressable market by the end of the decade.

Investment Plans
While specific investment details were not disclosed, Tata Motors has committed to investing 6-8 per cent of its revenues in the coming years. This investment is expected to total Rs 45,000 crore by the end of the decade.
At present, SUVs account for 66 per cent of Tata Motors' total sales, with the Nexon being India's best-selling SUV for three consecutive years. The Curvv EV has already gone on sale today, and prices for its petrol and diesel variants will be announced on September 2.
The introduction of the ATLAS platform marks a significant step for Tata Motors as it aims to enhance safety features and integrate advanced technologies into its future models.
