Sources indicate that Tata Motors will announce the price of the Nexon CNG in the coming weeks. The Nexon CNG, first shown as a concept at the Bharat Mobility Show in January, is set to launch soon after the Curvv coupe-SUV's petrol and diesel versions debut on September 2.
The Nexon CNG will feature an AMT gearbox and will be available in multiple variants. It will also be India's first turbo-CNG vehicle. While the concept showcased at the Bharat Mobility Show had a 5-speed manual gearbox, sources reveal that Tata Motors plans to introduce an AMT automatic option for the Nexon CNG range.
Nexon CNG: Gearbox Options
The exterior, interior, and equipment list of the Nexon CNG will mirror those of the standard SUV. However, there may be some mechanical upgrades related to the suspension due to the CNG system, along with a few iCNG badges to differentiate it within the lineup. The Nexon CNG will use the same 1.2-litre turbocharged 3-cylinder engine as its petrol counterparts, making it India's first turbocharged CNG vehicle.
With the addition of an AMT gearbox, the Nexon becomes Tata's third product to offer a CNG-AMT combination after the Tigor and Tiago. This move ensures that Nexon remains one of the few models in India with diverse powertrain options, including CNG, pure petrol, diesel, and electric variants.
Targeting Competitors
The Nexon CNG is expected to compete directly with Brezza CNG in our market. This strategic move aims to capture a significant share of customers looking for alternative fuel options without compromising on performance or features.
In other related news, Tata Motors is likely to introduce a DCT automatic option for its diesel variant of Nexon. Additionally, dealers report that many Nexon EV buyers are upgrading to the Curvv EV model. In August, Tata offered discounts of up to Rs 2.05 lakh on its Nexon EV models.
