Tata Motors Announces Major EV Expansion With 10 New Models: Safari EV Also In The Cards

Tata Motors has emerged as a leader in India's electric vehicle (EV) market with its innovative micro-market strategy. The company has announced an ambitious plan to introduce 10 new EVs in both the passenger and commercial sectors over the next five years.

Among the first to arrive is the Tata Punch EV, followed closely by the Tata Curvv EV. Fans of the brand can also look forward to the Tata Harrier and Safari EV models, slated for release around the 2024 festive season and early 2025, respectively.

Upcoming Tata EVs

The Tata Safari EV, presently in its early testing stages, was spotted with heavy camouflage, indicating its preparation for launch. This model, along with the Punch EV and Harrier EV, will be built on Tata's new Acti.ev platform.

Although the Safari EV will maintain a design similar to its ICE counterpart, it will feature several EV-specific modifications, including a closed-off grille and distinct alloy wheels.

Features & Interior Design

Inside, the Tata Safari EV will bear a strong resemblance to the ICE Safari, including a 4-spoke steering wheel adorned with an illuminated Tata logo. However, it will boast enhanced features like a 10.25-inch digital display for the driver, a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, ventilated seats at both the front and rear, and a panoramic sunroof.

We also expect the safety features on the upcoming Tata Safari EV to be pretty comprehensive with the likes of safety tech such as a 360-degree camera, blind spot monitor, ADAS technology, electronic stability control, and 7 airbags.

Performance & Pricing

While specific details about the Safari EV's powertrain remain undisclosed, it's expected to offer a range of approximately 500km. With a starting price estimated at Rs 32 lakh, the Tata Safari EV will directly compete with other EVs in the market, including the BYD Atto 3, MG ZS EV, and forthcoming models like the Maruti Suzuki eVX and Hyundai Creta EV.

DriveSpark Thinks

Tata Motors' commitment to expanding its EV lineup is clear, and with these upcoming launches, the company is set to maintain its leading position in India's rapidly evolving electric vehicle market.
