Tata Motors Passenger Vehicle Sales Fall 8% In June 2024
Tata Motors reported a decline in passenger vehicle sales for June 2024. The company's portfolio includes models like the Nex, Punch, Harrier, Safari, Tiago, Altroz, and Tigor, along with their electric variants.
Sales for June 2024 stood at 43,527 units, marking an 8% drop from 47,240 units in June 2023. This also represents a 7% decrease from May 2024's sales of 46,700 units.
Sales Performance Breakdown
The Tata Punch emerged as the highest-selling model in June 2024. It recorded a significant year-on-year growth of 66%, with sales rising from 10,990 units in June 2023 to 18,238 units in June 2024.
In contrast, the Nexon saw a decline of 13%, with sales dropping from 13,827 units in June 2023 to 12,066 units in June 2024.
To boost sales figures, Tata Motors has reduced prices for the Harrier and Safari by up to Rs 1.4 lakh. Additionally, prices for their electric vehicles (Punch EV, Nexon EV, and Tiago EV) have been cut by up to Rs 1.3 lakh.
Monthly Comparisons
When comparing month-on-month (MoM) data, Tata Motors' sales were also down by 7%. From May to June 2024, sales decreased from 46,700 units to 43,527 units. The only model that saw an increase was the Nexon.
The Tata Tiago and its electric variant sold a total of 5,174 units in June 2024. This is a significant drop of 36.40% compared to the same period last year when they sold 8,135 units. This decline highlights challenges faced in the hatchback segment due to market shifts towards SUVs and electric vehicles.
Segment Challenges
The Altroz recorded sales of just 3,937 units in June 2024 compared to last year's figure of 7,250 units. This represents a decline of nearly half at 45.70%, indicating competitive pressures within the hatchback market segment.
Sales for the Safari stood at only 1,394 units in June this year compared to last year's figure of 1,663 units—a decrease of over 16%. Similarly, the Tigor and its EV variant saw their numbers fall drastically by nearly half from last year's figure of over three thousand to just under fourteen hundred this year.
Future Prospects
Tata Motors plans to launch The Tata Curvv soon to boost its portfolio further. Borrowing features from the Nexon model range will include diesel petrol and electric powertrain options priced starting at Rs10 lakh while Curvv EV could cost around Rs20 lakh ex-showroom.
The Harrier's performance also reflected challenges within its segment; it recorded sales of only around thirteen hundred this year compared against two thousand last year showing a decrease nearing thirty-four percent.
