Tata Curvv Vs Citroen Basalt: Battle Of The SUV Coupes
Tata Motors and Citroen have recently stirred the Indian market by launching their coupe SUVs. Tata introduced the Curvv, while Citroen unveiled the Basalt. These models bring the coupe SUV design to mass-market buyers, a style previously limited to luxury cars.
The Tata Curvv was launched as an electric vehicle (EV) in India on August 9 this year. At the same event, Tata also showcased the internal combustion engine (ICE) version of the Curvv. The pricing for the ICE variant was announced on September 2. Citroen, however, took a different approach by launching the ICE-powered Basalt on August 9, making it the first mass-market coupe SUV in India.

Tata Curvv vs Citroen Basalt: Dimensions
The Tata Curvv measures 4,308mm in length and is 1,810mm wide. It stands 1,630mm tall with a wheelbase of 2,560mm. The Curvv offers a boot capacity of 500 litres and a fuel tank that holds 44 litres. It rides on 18-inch wheels.
In contrast, the Citroen Basalt is slightly longer at 4,352mm but narrower at 1,765mm. It has a height of 1,593mm and a wheelbase of 2,651mm. The Basalt features a boot space of 470 litres and a fuel tank capacity of 45 litres while running on smaller 16-inch wheels.
Tata Curvv vs Citroen Basalt: Powertrain
The Tata Curvv offers three engine options: two petrol and one diesel. The first petrol engine is a 1.2-litre Revotron unit producing 118bhp and 170Nm torque, available with both six-speed manual and seven-speed DCT automatic gearboxes. The second petrol option is a more powerful 1.2-litre Hyperion engine generating 123bhp and 225Nm torque with similar gearbox choices. Additionally, there is a diesel engine available with identical transmission options.

On the other hand, Citroen Basalt comes with two petrol engines: a naturally aspirated unit and a turbocharged motor. The naturally aspirated engine is a 1.2-litre unit delivering 80bhp and 115Nm torque paired with a five-speed manual gearbox. The turbocharged version is also a 1.2-litre engine but produces higher power at 108bhp and torque of 205Nm, available with six-speed manual or automatic transmissions.
Tata Curvv vs Citroen Basalt: Price
The Tata Curvv's price ranges from Rs 9.99 lakh to Rs 17.69 lakh (ex-showroom). This introductory pricing is valid until October 31. Meanwhile, the Citroen Basalt is priced between Rs 7.99 lakh and Rs 13.62 lakh (ex-showroom).
