Is Tata Curvv the Next Big Thing in SUVs? Electric & Diesel Options Await!
Tata Motors is making waves in the ever-changing Indian automotive market with its forward-thinking approach and innovative products. Renowned for its sturdy vehicles, the company has now raised the bar with its exciting Curvv concept, which offers both electric and petrol options.
The Curvv concept has generated a lot of excitement, and car enthusiasts are eagerly waiting for its launch. To add to the anticipation, Tata Motors has announced plans to introduce a diesel-powered version of the Curvv, intensifying the competition in the popular midsize SUV segment.
New Powertrain Innovations
Tata Motors breaks new ground with the introduction of a novel direct-injection turbo-petrol engine set to debut with the Curvv. However, leading the charge will be the Curvv EV, scheduled for release in the latter half of the year, with the diesel variant to follow. The diesel engine is expected to be a familiar powerhouse – the same 1.5-litre unit found in the Nexon, delivering 115hp and 260Nm of torque.

Paired with a 6-speed manual or an Automated Manual Transmission (AMT), this engine promises to deliver both performance and efficiency. The Curvv's diesel model will join the ranks of the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos as one of the few in its class to offer a diesel option.
Emission Norms Compliance and Market Strategy
Tata Motors has meticulously upgraded the Nexon's diesel engine to meet the stringent BS6.2 emissions norms, employing a Passive Selective Catalytic Reduction system to sidestep the complexities and costs associated with an SCR system. Despite the gradual decline in diesel popularity and the cloud of uncertainty that looms over its future, Tata Motors is not ready to relinquish this segment.

Diesel variants still command a significant market share, and by offering three powertrains – diesel, electric, and petrol – Tata aims to secure a stronger foothold in the densely populated midsize SUV category, which currently boasts no less than eight strong competitors.
Anticipating the Curvv's Arrival
Insider information suggests that series production for the Curvv is slated to begin around April this year at the automaker's Ranjangaon facility near Pune. Tata Motors has set an ambitious sales target for its Curvv SUV, with the electric variant alone aiming for a 12,000-unit slice of the projected 48,000-unit pie. This milestone aligns with Tata Motors' broader goal for EVs to constitute a sizeable 15-17 percent of its total volume by 2024.

DriveSpark Thinks
In conclusion, Tata Motors is not just expanding its portfolio but also reiterating its commitment to a diverse and sustainable product range. With the impending launch of the Curvv, offering a range of powertrain choices, Tata is positioning itself as a formidable player in the midsize SUV market, catering to a wide array of customer preferences.
The Curvv's arrival is poised to be a significant event in the Indian automotive calendar, potentially reshaping market dynamics and consumer choices. As we look forward to the Curvv's market introduction, the anticipation builds for what could be a new chapter in Tata Motors' storied legacy.
