Tata Motors Delays Curvv EV Launch To September 2024: All Details Here
The launch of Tata Motors' eagerly awaited Curvv, initially scheduled for the first half of 2024, has been delayed, with the electric vehicle (EV) variant now expected to hit the market around September 2024.
This shift in the timeline was revealed by Autocar India, noting that the petrol and diesel models will follow the EV's release. The delay pushes the production start for the Curvv EV to June 2024, slightly later than initially planned.

The introduction of the Curvv aims to give Tata a competitive edge in the midsize SUV market, positioning it against forthcoming models like the Hyundai Creta EV and the Maruti eVX along with its Toyota counterpart.
This strategic move mirrors Tata's successful launches of the Nexon EV and Punch EV, underscoring the company's commitment to leading in the electric mobility space. The anticipated delay is attributed to the ongoing general elections in the country, which tend to impact sales negatively.
Tata Motors also seems keen on ensuring the stability of the production and delivery processes of its current models before venturing into a new market segment. Despite reaching out to Tata Motors for comments on the delay, there has been no official response.

At the Bharat Mobility Show 2024, Tata Motors showcased a near-production version of the Curvv, which is based on an extensively updated version of the Nexon platform. It features a design closely related to the Nexon but with EV-specific elements to distinguish it.
The Curvv is significantly larger than the Nexon, offering more space inside. It will debut with Tata's new 123bhp, 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine, and for diesel enthusiasts, it will include the Nexon's 1.5-litre engine. A CNG variant might also be introduced later on.

For the EV model, Tata is employing its second-generation acti.ev architecture, promising a range of 450-500km, although more detailed specifications are still awaited. With these options, Tata Motors is eyeing an annual target of about 80,000 units across all powertrains, expecting the EV to contribute around 2,000 units per month and the internal combustion engine (ICE) versions to add another 5,000 units to the monthly tally.
Production for the Curvv will take place at Tata Motors' facility in Ranjangaon, a joint venture with Stellantis. This move is part of Tata's broader strategy to strengthen its position in the competitive SUV market and expand its electric vehicle portfolio.

As we await the official launch of the Tata Curvv, its delay represents a strategic decision to align production capabilities and market conditions. With its comprehensive range of powertrain options, the Curvv is set to be a significant addition to Tata Motors' lineup, offering something for every SUV enthusiast.
