Tata Curvv: A Glimpse Into The Future Of Coupe-SUVs

Tata Motors is gearing up to launch its first coupe-SUV, the Tata Curvv. Initially showcased as a concept in 2022, it made appearances at the 2023 Auto Expo and the 2024 Bharat Mobility Show. The company has now released a teaser indicating that the official launch is imminent.

The Curvv will be positioned on Tata's Generation 2 platform, which supports both electric and internal combustion engine (ICE) powertrains. It will follow the design language seen on models like the Nexon, Harrier, and Safari but will feature unique elements such as flush-fitted door handles and revised headlamp and fog lamp housings.

Exterior Design and Features

The Tata Curvv boasts a striking exterior design with high ground clearance and a strong road presence. It features a sloping roofline for a sportier stance, squared wheel arches with 18-inch multi-spoke wheels in a flower petal design, vertically stacked headlamps, new LED tail lamps, a shark fin antenna, and roof rails.

Inside, the Curvv offers numerous driver and passenger comforts. These include a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.25-inch driver display unit, touch controls for air conditioning, rotary dial for drive modes, ventilated front seats, and a new gear lever. A large panoramic glass roof adds to its appeal.

Powertrain Options

The Curvv EV will be built on Tata's dedicated Acti.ev architecture designed specifically for electric vehicles. While detailed technical specifications are yet to be disclosed, it is expected to come in Standard Range and Long Range versions with different battery packs offering an estimated range of around 500 km.

The ICE variant of the Curvv will draw power from the same petrol and diesel engines found in the Nexon. The 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine produces 118 hp and 170 Nm of torque. Additionally, there is a 1.5-litre four-cylinder diesel engine generating 113 hp and 260 Nm of torque.

Safety features in the Tata Curvv include six airbags, a 360-degree camera, and an Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) with autonomous emergency braking and adaptive cruise control. These features aim to provide enhanced safety for both drivers and passengers.

Once launched, the Curvv EV will compete with models like MG ZS EV, Hyundai Creta EV, and Maruti Suzuki eVX. Prices are anticipated to be around Rs 20 lakh for the Curvv EV.
