Tata Altroz Racer Earns 'Fastest Indian Hatchback' Title Officially

Since its launch, the Tata Altroz Racer has been making headlines and generating buzz. The well-rounded package has earned several unofficial titles, and now it has secured its first official title of 'Fastest Indian Hatchback' from the India Book of Records. This achievement was made possible by none other than Narain Karthikeyan, India's first F1 racer.

Tata Altroz Racer: A Record-Breaking Hatchback

Tata Motors is no stranger to earning titles for its vehicles. The Altroz Racer already held a few unofficial titles, such as being the first Indian hatchback with ventilated seats and a 360-degree camera, as well as being the only sporty hatchback in India with a 5-star crash rating. These accolades were given by car enthusiasts.

However, the recent official title is even more exciting, as it is validated by the India Book of Records and focuses on the car's performance. The record was set by Narain Karthikeyan at the CoASTT Racing Track in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu.

Fastest Indian Hatchback: The Time Attack Challenge

In a time attack challenge against rivals Hyundai i20 N Line and Maruti Suzuki Fronx Turbo, the Tata Altroz Racer emerged victorious. It completed a lap around the CoASTT Race Track in just 2 minutes and 21.74 seconds, setting the record for 'Fastest Indian Hatchback' on June 5th, 2024. The India Book of Records awarded this title on June 12th, 2024, with Chief Editor Dr Biswaroop Roy Chowdhury signing off on it.

What Makes the Tata Altroz Racer Sportier?

Compared to a standard Altroz, the i-Turbo+ powertrain on the Altroz Racer is more powerful, delivering 120 PS of peak power and 170 Nm of peak torque. It also features a 6-speed manual gearbox for the first time on an Altroz model. Several changes have been made under the skin to enhance its sportiness.

These modifications include tuning the suspension's compression and rebound for better performance on race tracks while maintaining standard Altroz characteristics for regular roads. Additionally, Tata introduced a new hydraulic clutch pedal for lighter footwork in both race track and city traffic conditions.

The steering geometry has also been fine-tuned to adapt to higher speeds around corners, and a new exhaust muffler provides a throatier sound. Narain Karthikeyan showcased these improvements during a media drive event held in Coimbatore.

DriveSpark Thinks

Tata Motors continues to push boundaries with its vehicles, as demonstrated by the Altroz Racer's impressive performance and official title of 'Fastest Indian Hatchback'. With its combination of power and sporty enhancements, this hatchback is sure to remain popular among car enthusiasts in India.
