Suzuki Teams Up With NDDB And Banas Dairy For Biogas-Fueled Rural Mobility
Suzuki Motor Corporation has signed a three-party Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Suzuki R&D Center India, the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), and Banas Dairy. This agreement aims to establish a fifth biogas production plant and promote rural mobility services using biogas fuel for Maruti Suzuki's CNG vehicles.
The MoU ceremony took place on July 26 at the Banas Dairy Sanadar Plant in Banaskantha district, Gujarat. Present at the event were Banas Dairy's chairman Shankar Chaudhary, NDDB's executive director S Rajeev, and Suzuki Motor Corp's president Toshihiro Suzuki. Approximately 2,500 dairy farmers from nearby farms also attended the ceremony.

Promoting Rural Mobility
The rural mobility service will initially be launched within the Banaskantha district. It aims to provide clean and affordable transportation options for rural citizens by utilising biogas fuel in Maruti Suzuki's CNG vehicles. This initiative is part of a broader effort to achieve carbon neutrality in India.
Toshihiro Suzuki stated, "By cooperating with Banas Dairy and NDDB, we will start two new businesses: a biogas production plant and a rural mobility service. Each member of the three parties will give out ideas to create a new model of lifestyle and contribute to the development of Banaskantha district."
Biogas Production Plants
The three parties are already working on setting up four biogas production plants in Banaskantha district. The newly signed basic agreement focuses on establishing the fifth plant. This initiative is expected to support both environmental sustainability and local economic development.
Suzuki, NDDB, and Banas Dairy are committed to promoting these initiatives to help achieve carbon neutrality in India while supporting transportation needs in rural areas.
Impact on Rural Income
Toshihiro Suzuki highlighted that manure from ten cows could power a car for a day, thereby improving rural income in India. This underscores the potential benefits of biogas production for local communities.
In related news, Maruti Suzuki has commenced operations of a biogas plant at its Manesar factory. Additionally, sales of CNG vehicles have surged by 33% in the first half of 2024, reaching 550,000 units with cars and SUVs leading this growth.
This collaboration between Suzuki R&D Center India, NDDB, and Banas Dairy represents a significant step towards sustainable development and enhanced rural mobility in India.
