Suzuki eVitara Debuts: AWD, 61kWh Battery Pack & More
Suzuki Motor Corporation has introduced its first mass-production electric vehicle, the eVitara, in Milan, Italy. This marks Suzuki's entry into the global electric vehicle market. Production will begin at Suzuki Motor Gujarat in India by spring 2025, with sales expected in Europe, India, and Japan by summer 2025. Competing with models like Tata Curvv EV and MG ZS EV, the eVitara will launch in India next year.
The eVitara is inspired by the Maruti eVX concept showcased at India's Auto Expo in January 2023 and later at the Japan Mobility Show in October. It represents Suzuki's vision for a versatile and eco-friendly SUV. Known as the "Emotional Versatile Cruiser," it blends advanced technology with SUV durability.

Design and Technology
The design of the eVitara combines high-tech features with rugged SUV elements. It boasts large-diameter tyres, a long wheelbase, and a robust stance for an adventurous drive. Inside, it features an integrated display with tough panels and a sturdy centre console, reflecting its "High-Tech & Adventure" theme.
At its core, the eVitara is powered by an advanced BEV powertrain. It uses an efficient eAxle that integrates the motor and inverter, driven by lithium iron-phosphate batteries known for safety and reliability. This setup ensures quick acceleration from a standstill and strong overtaking power across various speeds.
Performance Features
Suzuki's proprietary electric 4WD system, "ALLGRIP-e," enhances the eVitara's performance. With two independent eAxles at the front and rear, it offers responsive handling and impressive off-road capability. The ALLGRIP-e system includes a Trail mode that applies brakes to spinning tyres while distributing torque to the opposite tyre for better terrain navigation.
Built on Suzuki's new HEARTECT-e platform designed specifically for BEVs, the eVitara offers a lightweight structure with high-voltage protection. The elimination of underfloor members maximises interior space and battery capacity while contributing to efficient design.
Specifications
For Europe, the eVitara offers battery options of 49 kWh and 61 kWh with both 2WD and 4WD systems available. Motor output ranges from 106 kW to 135 kW with maximum torque of 189 Nm for 2WD models and up to 300 Nm for 4WD models. Dimensions include a length of 4,275 mm, width of 1,800 mm, height of 1,635 mm, wheelbase of 2,700 mm, ground clearance of 180 mm suitable for off-road conditions, and seating capacity for five occupants.
"The eVitara is our first BEV," stated President Suzuki. "Developed through repeated trial and error to create an easy-to-use BEV for our customers." He added that this introduction represents a significant milestone towards carbon neutrality as they plan to expand their BEV line-up tailored to specific regions' needs.
Suzuki's Electric Future
With the launch of its first global BEV model—the eVitara—Suzuki aims to provide practical eco-friendly alternatives in compact SUVs across diverse markets. The company plans further development of new BEV models ensuring competitiveness within evolving electric mobility landscapes while maintaining signature reliability combined with advanced technology appealing especially among environmentally conscious consumers seeking sustainable driving solutions both urbanly or off-roadly alike!
