Subaru Earns Seven Spots on Teen Driver Vehicle List

Families looking for a safe and practical set of wheels for their recent high school graduate or young driver can choose among 58 used vehicles and 22 new ones on this year's teen vehicle list from IIHS and Consumer Reports.

For new vehicles, all the recommended models for 2024 are IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK or TOP SAFETY PICK+ winners. These vehicles have good ratings in three frontal crash tests, including driver- and passenger-side small overlap and updated side impact.

They also have a good rating in the original moderate overlap frontal test or a good or acceptable rating in the updated moderate overlap frontal test. Additionally, they have good or acceptable ratings for pedestrian front crash prevention, including daytime and nighttime pedestrian detection, as well as standard acceptable- or good-rated headlights.

The vehicles also needed to score well on Consumer Reports evaluations, including reliability, emergency handling, braking distance, and ease of use of controls. For used vehicles, IIHS/CR split their recommendations into "Best" and "Good" lists.

Subaru secured multiple positions on both lists. All recommended used vehicles have a good or acceptable rating in the IIHS driver-side small overlap test and good ratings in four other IIHS tests.

They also have strong marks for braking, handling, and reliability from Consumer Reports. Vehicles on the "Best" list also include standard automatic emergency braking (AEB).

The recommended Subaru vehicles for teen drivers are as follows:

New Vehicles:- 2024 Model Year Subaru Ascent- Subaru Impreza- Subaru Outback.

Used Vehicles Best Choice:- Subaru Legacy (2019)- Subaru Forester (2021 or newer).
