Subaru Partners With Arbor Day Foundation To Launch Largest Corporate Tree Distribution Programme In History

Subaru of America, Inc. has joined forces with the Arbor Day Foundation to launch a significant initiative aimed at distributing hundreds of thousands of trees across communities. This collaboration marks the largest corporate investment in community tree distribution in the history of the non-profit organisation. Announced during Climate Week NYC, this effort aligns with Subaru's ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability through its Subaru Loves the Earth initiative.

The partnership will see mature and native trees distributed nationwide, leveraging Subaru's extensive retailer network. American cities face an annual loss of 36 million trees due to factors like disease and extreme weather, which impacts both aesthetics and environmental health. Trees play a crucial role in removing CO2, providing oxygen, and cooling urban areas by up to 10 degrees, thus mitigating heat waves and air pollution.

Alan Bethke, Senior Vice President of Marketing at Subaru of America, Inc., stated: "Subaru’s commitment to the environment is well-established, and partnering with the Arbor Day Foundation is a natural extension of what we have learned through our previous and ongoing initiatives. We are making an intentional effort to bring our love of nature back to communities on a large scale that will have a significant impact. Whether it is through waste reduction, conserving resources, or preserving and enhancing natural spaces, we are in constant pursuit of opportunities that will help our planet because we know it is the right thing to do."

This collaboration aims to expand the Arbor Day Foundation's community projects starting in spring 2025. As their largest partner for these projects, Subaru will fund numerous initiatives annually. The Foundation will use its expertise to select appropriate native tree species for different regions based on local climates.

Dan Lambe, Chief Executive of the Arbor Day Foundation, remarked: "From extreme heat to air pollution, our nation is feeling the stress of climate change, but thankfully, science shows that trees can help relieve the pressure. With this commitment, Subaru is stepping up to help unlock the positive power of trees across the country. Their bold leadership will empower the Arbor Day Foundation to infuse communities with the resources needed to scale up urban forestry in a period of great urgency."

To commemorate this partnership, Subaru and the Arbor Day Foundation plan to distribute 200 mature and native trees in Camden, NJ—Subaru’s hometown—and participate in one of Camden’s final "Camden Strong" cleanup events for 2024. This volunteer effort aims to enhance environmental quality by rebuilding tree canopies, improving air quality, conserving water, reducing flooding risks, and boosting community well-being.
