Stellantis Launches STLA Frame Platform Offering Up To 690-Mile Range For Trucks And SUVs

Stellantis N.V. has introduced the STLA Frame platform, a new BEV-native design for large pickup trucks and SUVs. This platform is crucial for North America and other key markets. It promises up to 690 miles (1,100 km) with range-extender electric-vehicle (REEV) technology and 500 miles (800 km) in battery-electric vehicles (BEV). The platform offers a towing capacity of 14,000 pounds (6,350 kg) and a payload of 2,700 pounds (1,224 kg).

The STLA Frame platform is engineered to support various propulsion systems. Initially, it will feature a full BEV system and a REEV configuration. Future adaptations may include internal combustion, hybrid, and hydrogen systems. The REEV setup combines a battery with front and rear electric drive modules (EDMs), an on-board generator, and an internal combustion engine.

Constructed from high-strength steel, the STLA Frame ensures durability while reducing weight. Its design includes a widened center section to house the battery pack securely. Reinforced frame rails protect the battery during side impacts. A full-length belly pan reduces aerodynamic drag to maximise driving range without compromising performance.

The platform supports liquid-cooled battery packs ranging from 159 to over 200 kilowatt-hours. It is also designed to accommodate future energy storage technologies, ensuring long-term adaptability. Stellantis has developed front and rear EDMs capable of delivering up to 250 kW each, enabling all-wheel-drive capability.

STLA Frame supports fast charging options for both BEV and REEV configurations. In BEV setups, it allows 800-volt DC fast charging up to 350 kW, adding 100 miles in just 10 minutes. For REEVs, it supports up to 50 miles in the same time with 400-volt DC fast charging at up to 175 kW.

The platform also features bi-directional charging capabilities. This allows the vehicle's battery to charge another EV or power a home during emergencies. It can even feed electricity back into the grid when needed.

Multi-energy Approach for Diverse Needs

The STLA Frame is part of Stellantis' Dare Forward 2030 strategic plan. It follows the release of STLA Medium in July 2023 and STLA Large in January 2024. This lineup ensures Stellantis meets diverse electrification needs globally by offering flexible solutions based on different adoption scenarios.

Stellantis aims for significant electrification by investing over €50 billion through 2030. The goal is a complete passenger car BEV sales mix in Europe and half of passenger car and light-duty truck sales as BEVs in the U.S by that year.

Commitment to Sustainable Mobility

Stellantis N.V., listed on NYSE: STLA/ Euronext Milan: STLAM/ Euronext Paris: STLAP, is among the world's leading automakers focused on clean mobility solutions.
