Steffen Reiche To Lead VWCV Production And Logistics In Strategic Shift
Steffen Reiche will assume the role of Member of the Board of Management responsible for Production and Logistics at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles (VWCV) on August 1, 2024. He takes over from Josef Baumert, who is leaving the Volkswagen Group after nearly 30 years of service.
Reiche is currently the Executive Vice President of Production and Production Management at SAIC Volkswagen in Anting/Shanghai. He has been with the Volkswagen Group for almost three decades, holding various international management positions focused on production.
Carsten Intra, Chairman of the Board of Management of VWCV, expressed enthusiasm about Reiche's appointment. "We are very much looking forward to Steffen Reiche joining our Board of Management team. I couldn't imagine a better time to pass the baton," Intra said.
Intra highlighted that VWCV's modern plants in Poznań, Września, and Hanover are well-prepared for upcoming production starts and conversions. "Steffen Reiche is coming at the right time to provide important impetus for the further transformation and the future of our production and logistics," he added.
Reiche's Background
Reiche's career at Volkswagen began in November 1995. He studied production engineering and mechanical engineering in Magdeburg and Bristol. His previous roles include CEO and President of Volkswagen de México from 2018 to 2021, where he oversaw production in North America.
Other notable positions held by Reiche include Head of Plant Management at SEAT in Martorell, Spain, Lead of Production Management for Volkswagen in Bratislava, Slovakia, and Head of Brand Planning at Volkswagen AG.
Baumert's Contributions
Josef Baumert has been a Member of the Board of Management for Production and Logistics at VWCV since April 1, 2014. He joined Volkswagen AG in Wolfsburg in 1995 as a biologist with a doctorate and industrial engineer.
Baumert's career includes roles such as Head of Assembly New Beetle at Volkswagen de México S.A. de C.V. in Puebla and management positions back in Wolfsburg. He also served as plant manager and technical director of Volkswagen Group Rus in Kaluga (Russia).
