Škoda Goes Gran Turismo: Electric Vision GT Concept Stars In GT7
Skoda Auto has taken a significant leap into the digital future with the unveiling of the Skoda Vision Gran Turismo, an all-electric concept car set to feature in the Gran Turismo 7 PlayStation game. This move marks Skoda's first foray into the renowned racing simulation game, showcasing the brand's commitment to innovation, digitalisation, and its rich motorsport heritage. The Vision Gran Turismo draws inspiration from the iconic 1957 Skoda 1100 OHC Spider and is designed to captivate both long-time fans and new audiences alike.
The concept car is a testament to Skoda's engineering prowess, equipped with four electric motors that deliver a staggering total output of 800 kW, coupled with an all-wheel drive system. This setup ensures an exhilarating performance that mirrors the brand's dedication to pushing the boundaries of electric vehicle technology. The Vision Gran Turismo's design pays tribute to the Skoda 1100 OHC Spider, incorporating elements from this legendary vehicle alongside Skoda's new Modern Solid design language.
Featuring sharp lines, pronounced edges, and active aerodynamics, the Vision Gran Turismo is a marvel of modern automotive design. It offers two distinct paint finishes, enhancing its visual appeal. The interior of the car is equally impressive, with a minimalist digital cockpit that draws inspiration from open-top formula racing cars. Drivers are secured with a six-point harness and can navigate using a carbon steering wheel, while a crystal stone power meter adds a unique touch to the dashboard. Safety features include a rearview mirror display and distance sensors to prevent collisions.
The specifications of the Vision Gran Turismo are as remarkable as its design. Weighing in at 1,300 kilograms, it boasts dimensions of 4.41 metres in length, 1.95 metres in width, and a height of just 94.9 centimetres. The car is powered by an 87 kWh lithium-ion battery, delivering a maximum torque of 1,020 Nm. Its all-wheel drive system enhances cornering performance by optimising torque distribution between the two axles. Additionally, an independent-arms pushrod-type suspension system is employed to improve stability at high speeds and minimise body roll.
By integrating the Skoda Vision Gran Turismo into Gran Turismo 7, Skoda not only celebrates its motorsport heritage but also aligns itself with the future of electric vehicles and digital entertainment. This strategic move aims to attract new fans and explore new target groups, reinforcing Skoda's position in both the automotive and digital worlds.
