Skoda Kylaq Production Commences In India: Plant Capacity Increased
Skoda India is gearing up for the launch of its smallest SUV, the Kylaq. Deliveries are set to begin on January 27, 2025, coinciding with the start of customer test drives. The company has already commenced series production of this model. To support Kylaq's manufacturing, Skoda has increased its Chakan plant's production capacity by 30 percent.
Production & Capacity Expansion
The Chakan facility now boasts an annual capacity of 2.55 lakh units. This expansion aims to meet the anticipated demand for the Kylaq, with plans to produce between 50,000 and 70,000 units annually. Monthly production targets range from 4,000 to 5,800 units. Initially focused on domestic sales, Skoda also intends to export the Kylaq to enhance economies of scale.
Platform & Pricing Strategy
Built on the MQB A0 IN platform, the Kylaq joins other models like the Kushaq and Slavia. This platform's localisation contributes to its competitive pricing of Rs 7.89 lakh. Skoda has also boosted its supplier base capacity by 10 percent for quicker component procurement.
Booking Milestones & Delivery Plans
Since opening bookings on December 2, over 10,000 orders have been placed for the Kylaq. The first batch will include 33,333 units slated for delivery by May 2025. Notably, around 3,000 entry-level variants have already sold out in this initial batch.
The Chakan plant is integral to producing MQB A0 IN products like the Kushaq and Taigun alongside the Kylaq. This strategic move supports Skoda's goal of achieving better economies through increased production efficiency.
Skoda plans to showcase the Kylaq at the Bharat Mobility Show (Auto Expo 2025) in New Delhi starting January 17. This event will provide potential buyers a closer look at this new compact SUV before it hits showrooms later in January.
