Skoda India's Leap Towards Eco-Friendly Motoring With E20 Engine Certification

Skoda India has achieved a significant milestone by obtaining an official certification for its E20-compliant engines. The Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) has certified the 1.0-litre engine of Skoda cars as compliant with E20 fuel standards. This certification is a step towards meeting the Indian government's mandate for all vehicles to be E20-compliant by April 2025.

E20 Compliance and Future Plans

The 1.0-litre TSi turbo-petrol engine, currently available in the Kushaq and Slavia models, is now certified to run on E20 fuel. This fuel blend consists of 20 per cent ethanol and 80 per cent petrol. The same engine is also used in Volkswagen Virtus and Taigun models, which are expected to receive similar certification soon.

Skoda's 1.5-litre TSi engines are also on track to receive E20 compliance certification by the fourth quarter of 2024. This aligns with the company's commitment to adapting its technology to meet evolving standards and policies globally.

Commitment to Efficiency and Sustainability

Petr Janeba, Brand Director at Skoda Auto India, highlighted the company's dedication to efficiency and sustainability. He stated, "Along with making cars that lead in driving dynamics and safety, efficiency and sustainability have also been at the centre of our product and production practices." He emphasized that their TSi technology has been proven for efficiency and emissions while being effectively powered.

The 1.0 TSi engine, featuring a three-cylinder turbo configuration, is particularly noted for its power and efficiency. Janeba added, "We have evolved and adapted this technology to various updates in standards and policies across the globe. The E20 certification is a testament to this." He expressed confidence that the 1.5 TSi engine would achieve similar results when tested later this year.

This achievement places Skoda among the first few brands in India to receive such certification, showcasing their proactive approach towards sustainable automotive solutions.

As Skoda continues to adapt its engines for future compliance, it sets a precedent for other manufacturers in India to follow suit in meeting environmental standards.
