Skoda Hints At The Arrival Of New SUV – Tata Nexon Rival?
Skoda has hinted at the arrival of a new model for the Indian market. This upcoming model is expected to be positioned below the Skoda Kushaq SUV, and likely to rival the likes of sub-4m SUVs such as the Tata Nexon, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, and Kia Sonet.
If true, Skoda will be entering into an ever-growing and highly competitive sub-4m SUV category. As such, here is what Skoda is likely to offer with its upcoming sub-4m SUV.

Starting with the platform, the upcoming Skoda sub-4m SUV will use the same MQB-A0 IN platform as the Skoda Kushaq and Slavia. This move will save Skoda a lot of time and money in developing the model.
Given the same platform, we expect the upcoming Skoda sub-4m SUV to be powered by the same powertrain options as the Skoda Kushaq SUV and Slavia sedan. However, the more powerful 1.5 TSI engine is not likely to be a part of the powertrain list.

As such, Skoda's upcoming sub-4m SUV will be powered by the automaker's trusted 1.0 TSI engine. This 1.0-litre, turbocharged petrol engine in the Kushaq and Slavia is tuned to produce 114bhp and 178Nm of torque.
In terms of transmission options, the model is expected to come with a 6-speed manual gearbox and an optional 6-speed torque convertor automatic gearbox. In terms of fuel efficiency figures, we expect slightly improved figures compared to the Kushaq SUV.

Dimension-wise, we expect the upcoming Skoda sub-4m SUV to be around a similar size to the Kia Sonet, albeit slightly wider. Moreover, thanks to its sub-4m footprint, expect the model to be pretty convenient to park in urban spaces.
Design-wise, we expect the upcoming Skoda sub-4m SUV to have a design that is very European but not similar to the outgoing Kushaq SUV. Moreover, we also expect the model to sport a split headlamp setup with a separate DRL unit.

In terms of pricing, we expect the upcoming Skoda sub-4m SUV to be on the expensive side as the model as the base model itself comes with a turbocharged petrol engine. We also expect prices to start around Rs 9 lakh.
Thoughts About The Skoda Sub-4m SUV
The launch of the Skoda's 4m SUV is expected to boost the automaker's sales figures by a significant margin. Also, we expect the Skoda's sub-4m SUV to give tough competition to current segment leaders such as the Tata Nexon, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Kia Sonet, and Hyundai Venue.
