Jo Shimoda Earns Third Podium Finish Of The Season At Washougal MX
Jo Shimoda secured his third podium finish of the 250 season at the Washougal Pro Motocross National, achieving 3-3 moto finishes to claim third overall. Meanwhile, Chance Hymas battled through a painful right ankle injury to complete both motos, finishing ninth overall with an 8-12 showing.Hunter Lawrence, despite qualifying on pole in the 450 division, couldn't maintain his usual pace and finished fourth overall. He started strong in the first moto but slipped back to fifth after a fall. In the second moto, he led initially but ended up fourth due to the slippery track conditions.Shimoda began the first 250 moto in sixth place and quickly moved up to third by the midway point. Hymas finished eighth despite his injury. In the second moto, Shimoda recovered from an early loss of position to finish third again, while Hymas managed a twelfth-place finish after a crash at turn one.During Friday's Media Day at Washougal, all three active Team Honda HRC riders participated in interviews and track time. Despite a severe ankle sprain last week, Hymas decided to race after qualifying and completed both motos.The Washougal event featured a Military Appreciation theme with special graphics from TrueTimber. Hunter Lawrence's mechanic Cameron Camera returned after missing two races due to an injury. Lawrence set the fastest time during morning qualifying for the 450 riders.Washougal marked Lawrence's first time off the overall podium in his young 450MX career and Honda's first absence from the 450 podium since 2021. Nevertheless, Lawrence remains second in the 450 title chase, trailing Chase Sexton by 28 points with three rounds left.In the 250 class standings, Hymas and Shimoda are fourth and fifth respectively. The AMA Pro Motocross series will take a two-week break before resuming on August 10 at Unadilla MX in Upstate New York.
