Ryvid Teams Up With Sosa Metalworks For Custom Electric Motorcycle
Cristian Sosa has crafted a retro custom motorcycle based on the latest Ryvid Anthem Electric Motorcycle, maintaining its height-adjustable seat and removable battery. Ryvid, a California-based electric motorcycle manufacturer, collaborated with Sosa Metalworks in Las Vegas for this project. Known for his traditional metal fabrication, this was Cristian’s first attempt at a battery-powered motorcycle.
Cristian founded Sosa Metalworks in September 2012 with his brother Roberto, focusing on custom metal fabrication. He has specialized in motorcycles, leading him to become the lead metal fabricator at Count’s Kustoms for Discovery Channel's Counting Cars series. The collaboration with Ryvid began at the One Motorcycle Show in 2023, where Cristian met company founder Dong Tran.
When approaching new projects, Cristian envisions how a classic machine would look in the future. The Anthem’s ultra-modern design attracted him, but he had to focus on the folded steel frame and removable battery pack instead of the motor and transmission. "These elements dictated the use of sharper, straighter lines compared to the curved designs I often use," Cristian explained.
For modern machines, Cristian prefers aluminum over steel due to its lighter weight and better performance. "Aluminum is harder to work than steel because it requires welding on both sides, but it’s softer and easier to shape," he said. He incorporated his fast-cut CNC table into the design process for the first time, shaping parts by hand on power hammers.
The entire build took about three weeks to complete, including the design process. "It can be difficult to find a design direction, but once it was decided I then practically built the bike twice; first as a design buck and then replicated it in aluminum," Cristian said. The final product exceeded his expectations with its classic feel and aggressive, futuristic lines.
The Ryvid Anthem features a removable 4.3kWh battery with an integrated charger powering a 72V air-cooled, brushless DC motor. It also has a unique height-adjustable seat that can be positioned at the flick of a switch. Cristian ensured that these features were integrated while keeping the Anthem fully functional.
Cristian shared his experience riding the Ryvid Anthem: "I’ve always loved motorcycles for their gas-powered engines, but with an electric motorcycle, you focus on the actual ride rather than the motor." He highlighted the simplicity and efficiency of electric motorcycles as attractive features.
Looking Ahead
Following Cristian’s involvement in the Anthem project, Ryvid launched its second model at the 2024 One Motorcycle Show: the Outset. Based on the same frame, battery, and motor as the Anthem, Outset is a scrambler-style machine with taller suspension and wider handlebars. Cristian expressed interest in working on another electric project with Ryvid.
Available to Order
The Ryvid Anthem Electric and Ryvid Outset Electric are available for order now from ryvid.com. The $6,495 Anthem is available for immediate delivery in six colours. Deliveries of the new $5,995 Outset will begin in Summer 2024 in Sector Red or Vapor Grey.
| Model | Price | Availability | Colours |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ryvid Anthem | $6,495 | Immediate Delivery | Six Colours |
| Ryvid Outset | $5,995 | Summer 2024 | Sector Red or Vapor Grey |
The Anthem and Outset share a rigid steel backbone frame, instrument display, removable 4.3kWh battery with integrated charger, 72V air-cooled brushless DC motor, controller, and sealed belt drive. Both models can reach speeds over 75mph and offer up to 70 miles range on the Outset or 75 miles on the Anthem.
The lightweight architecture and low centre of gravity make both bikes easy to handle at high or low speeds. Another benefit is the Ryvid Reverse Drive feature that allows riders to move the motorcycle backwards at walking speed when stopped.
