Royal Automobile Club Reveals Finalists For Esteemed Motoring Book Of The Year Awards
The Royal Automobile Club’s Motoring Book of The Year Awards is celebrating its eleventh year. This prestigious event will take place in London’s Pall Mall on Wednesday, 30 October. The awards recognise excellence in motoring literature, with winners announced at a special gathering of leading motoring writers and publishers.
Jeremy Vaughan, Head of Motoring at the Royal Automobile Club, expressed pride in supporting the industry. "We founded these Awards in 2013 to recognise excellence and celebrate success in the motoring literary world," he said. "We are proud to lend our considerable support to the industry so that motoring book ideas and publications continue to thrive and be credited."

This year’s finalists cover a range of topics from Formula 1 mavericks to pedal-powered single-seaters. Titles under consideration were published between 1 July 2023 and 30 June 2024. There are four categories: affordable motoring-related books, affordable motor racing-related books, high-priced motoring-related books, and high-priced motor racing-related books.
The overall trophy is awarded to the title that stands out across all categories. Additionally, a Lifetime Achievement Award will honour an individual who has significantly contributed to the UK’s motoring book industry. The Graham Robson Trophy for Best Debut Author will also be presented.
The judging panel consists of six expert judges independent of the Royal Automobile Club. These include Mick Walsh from Classic & Sports Car, Gordon Cruickshank from Motor Sport, Mark Dixon from Octane, Ian Titchmarsh from the British Racing Drivers’ Club, Ben Horton from Horton’s Books, and Christian Whitehead from Blackwell’s bookstore. Simon Taylor chairs the panel.
Simon Taylor noted the high calibre of entries this year. "Our judges had dozens and dozens of books to assess," he said. "Almost everything has merit, and we applaud anyone who has the inspiration and tenacity to have a car book published."
