Ringbrothers Unveils INFECTED: A Stunning Custom 1970 Plymouth 'Cuda With Modern Performance
Ringbrothers, a renowned custom car builder, unveiled its latest creation at the 2024 SEMA Show: a 1970 Plymouth ‘Cuda named "INFECTED." This project celebrates Mopar's vibrant past with modern enhancements. The car features extensive fabrication, carbon-fibre components, and an 807-horsepower Hellcrate Redeye engine. Ringbrothers invested 5,600 hours in crafting this masterpiece, showcasing their in-house capabilities.
The ‘Cuda’s wheelbase was extended by moving the front wheels forward by 1.5 inches. The front fenders were shortened for a sleeker look. Custom touches include milled billet aluminium grille surrounds and bumper guards. The lower front valance was widened to improve airflow, while the bumpers were tucked and narrowed for a muscular appearance.
Under the unique carbon-fibre hood lies Mopar’s supercharged HEMI V8 engine. It produces 807 horsepower and delivers 717 ft-lbs of torque through a Bowler TREMEC TR-6060 six-speed manual transaxle. A Roadster Shop FAST TRACK chassis enhances performance with modifications like a custom torque tube and Wavetrac differential.
The ‘Cuda rides on Fox RS SV coilovers at all corners, ensuring dynamic handling. Baer Brakes Extreme XTR calipers provide ample stopping power with six-piston calipers at the front and four-piston ones at the rear. HRE Wheels Muscle Series 105 three-piece wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres complete the setup.
The interior mirrors the exterior's custom treatment with modern comforts throughout. Upholstery Unlimited tailored the white leather interior, featuring a Gentex GNTX-R rearview mirror and Dakota Digital custom gauges. Vintage Air Gen IV climate control ensures comfort, while a bespoke sound system with Apple CarPlay adds entertainment value.
A custom carbon-fibre "pistol grip" shifter and Ringbrothers Murph steering wheel with a 3K carbon hoop add finishing touches to the interior. These elements reflect Mopar's classic style while incorporating modern functionality.
Celebration of Colour and Performance
Jim Ring, co-owner of Ringbrothers, expressed excitement about building the ‘Cuda: "The lines and proportions are the quintessential muscle car." He noted that the paintwork pays homage to Mopar’s High-Impact colours of the ‘70s with a unique twist called ‘Pink Eye,’ developed in collaboration with BASF.
Mike Ring highlighted that "INFECTED was shaped by the theatrics and joyful nature of classic Mopars." He added that this build showcases how modern techniques enhance classic American muscle cars. The project involved partners like HRE Wheels, BASF, Dynamat, Gentex Corporation, among others.
