Ringbrothers Unveils Custom-Built 1,246-Horsepower 1987 Buick Grand National INVADR
Ringbrothers, a renowned custom car builder, has introduced its latest masterpiece, the "INVADR," a custom 1987 Buick Grand National. This high-performance vehicle features a twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter V6 engine from Duttweiler Performance, delivering 1,246 horsepower and 1,000 ft-lbs of torque to the rear wheels. The car is designed to exceed performance expectations and showcase Ringbrothers' exceptional craftsmanship.
The Grand National retains its iconic angular design with subtle enhancements highlighting its extensive customization. Stainless steel replaces the original plastic bumpers, now featuring machined aluminum guards. The front fenders have been adjusted to integrate seamlessly with the new bumpers, while extended rocker panels enhance the cohesive look. A carbon-fiber scoop designed by Ringbrothers enhances heat extraction and aesthetics.
The heart of this vehicle is its powerful engine. Built by Duttweiler Performance, the 3.8-liter V6 can produce up to 2,000 horsepower at 50 lbs. of boost. For everyday use, it delivers 1,246 horsepower using twin Precision 62mm turbochargers at 32 lbs. of boost on E85 fuel. The engine features an all-aluminum block with six-bolt mains and custom aluminum cylinder heads.
A Bowler TREMEC T-56 Magnum six-speed manual transmission channels power through a carbon-fiber drag-race shaft to the wheels. The drivetrain is supported by a custom Roadster Shop chassis and four-link rear suspension with Penske three-way adjustable shocks for optimal handling and comfort.
To manage its immense power, INVADR is equipped with Brembo brakes featuring six-piston calipers on 394x36mm carbon-ceramic rotors. These brakes are housed within HRE's three-piece 528-series wheels measuring 19x10.5 inches at the front and 20x13 inches at the rear, wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires for superior grip.
The car also includes an integrated nitrogen-powered air-jack system that lifts it by 15.1 inches for quick tire changes during races or maintenance.
Interior Craftsmanship
The interior of INVADR showcases meticulous attention to detail while preserving period-correct design elements. Upholstery Unlimited hand-crafted the seats, dashboard, and center console, while Dakota Digital provided custom instrumentation. Reconfigured floor pans improve interior comfort, complemented by a Ringbrothers carbon-fiber steering wheel that balances power with craftsmanship.
"INVADR is one of those cars we’ll remember building for a long time," said Jim Ring, co-owner of Ringbrothers. "It’s a combination of state-of-the-art fabrication and imagination plus the Grand National’s DNA."
