2024 Formula DRIFT PRO & PROSPEC New Jersey: Round 4 Winners Announced
Formula DRIFT PRO Championship Round 4: Type S The Gauntlet
The Formula DRIFT PRO Championship Round 4, titled "Type S The Gauntlet," took place on Thursday, June 20, 2024, at the Old Bridge Township Raceway in Englishtown, NJ. This event also featured the Link ECU PROSPEC Championship Round 2.
Dmitriy Brutskiy clinched the top spot in the FD PRO Seeding Bracket driving his Never Settle E46 BMW. Jonathan Hurst and Andy Hateley, both from the USA, secured second and third places respectively. Hurst drove an MRCOOL Cadillac XLR, while Hateley competed in a Hateley Motorsports E46 BMW.
The weather was hot and humid for the Link ECU PROSPEC Seeding Bracket, with track temperatures reaching 145˚F before the first runs. Conditions cooled down for the K&N PRO Seeding Bracket held under floodlights in the evening.
Seeding Bracket Format Changes
This year saw a shift from solo qualifying runs to competitive tandem runs once top positions were determined by previous rounds. For PRO, this meant Round 3 in Orlando set the first 24 positions. The remaining 12 drivers competed for eight spots in the Top 32 competition heats.
PROSPEC Seeding Bracket
In PROSPEC, the first 16 positions were preset based on Round 1 in Atlanta. The remaining 30 drivers competed for 16 places in the Top 32 competition. The format was sudden death, eliminating the loser of each tandem run. Fourteen drivers were eliminated.
Top Performers and Eliminations
The top three drivers in the K&N PRO Seeding Bracket were Brutskiy, Hurst, and Hateley. Brutskiy won after Hurst collided with him in the final, causing Brutskiy's BMW to spin. Notably, Ben Hobson (USA), driving the Pennzoil / BC Racing Mustang RTR Spec 5-FD, was eliminated by Hurst and will not compete on Saturday.
