Renault's Kwid EV Spotted In India: A Glimpse Into 2025's Launch

Renault's Kwid EV has been spotted in India, hinting at its upcoming launch. This new electric vehicle will compete with models like the Tata Punch EV, Citroen eC3, and MG Comet. Renault's 2024 strategy for India includes two new SUVs and an EV, with the Kwid EV being a localized version of the Dacia Spring EV sold internationally.

The Renault Kwid EV adopts a more conventional design compared to other quirky EVs. It features LED DRLs similar to the new-gen Duster, a front charging port under the DC logo, and a split headlamp setup.

The vehicle also sports a closed-off grille, single wiper, and rugged bumper design. The side profile includes squared-off wheel arches, door side trims, and traditional door handles.

This test mule was seen with steel wheels; however, higher variants might come with aerodynamically designed alloy wheels. At the rear, it has a rear wiper, integrated spoiler, shark fin antenna, and edgy tail lamps. The dimensions are expected to be similar to the Dacia Spring EV sold overseas, which is 3,701 mm long and offers 308 litres of boot space.

Inside the Renault Kwid EV, there will be a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 7-inch instrument cluster. Other interior features include a minimalistic centre console, a three-spoke multifunction steering wheel, circular AC vents, and a stubby gear lever. A dual-tone interior theme with contrasting white highlights aims to create an engaging cockpit experience.

Interior and Safety Features

To compete in India's entry-level EV market, the Renault Kwid EV will need to offer a comprehensive range of features. The Dacia Spring EV available overseas includes electrically adjustable door mirrors, vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability, a USB charging socket, foldable rear seats for extra storage, and various handy storage compartments. It also boasts numerous internet-connected features.

Safety features for the Renault Kwid EV include electronic stability control, hill start assist, front and rear parking sensors, driver attention alert, rear parking camera, and tyre pressure monitoring system. Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) such as lane-keeping assist, traffic sign recognition, and an emergency braking system are also part of the package.

Performance Specifications

The Dacia Spring EV comes in two variants internationally. The top-spec variant uses a 26.8 kWh battery pack that delivers 65 hp and 113 Nm of torque. It offers a range of 225 km and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 13.7 seconds with a top speed of 125 km/h.

Charging options include a 7kW standard AC charger or a 30 kW DC rapid charger. At public charging stations with a 150-kW fast charger, it can charge from 20% to 80% in about 40 minutes.

Given the strong demand for entry-level EVs in India, Renault aims to launch the Kwid EV soon—likely by 2025. Localization efforts are expected to help achieve an affordable price point.

The Dacia Spring EV is one of Europe's most affordable electric vehicles; similarly priced at around Rs 11 lakh in India could make the Renault Kwid EV highly competitive.

The introduction of the Renault Kwid EV marks an important step in expanding Renault's portfolio in India while catering to growing consumer interest in electric vehicles.
