Renault Duster's Euro NCAP Safety Features Ahead Of India Launch
The third-generation Duster is set to arrive in India in 2025, with local manufacturing planned. This new model will be launched under the Renault badge. However, the Euro NCAP safety rating for the European-spec Duster will not apply to the Indian version.
Euro NCAP Safety Ratings
The European-spec Dacia Duster recently underwent crash tests and received a 3-star safety rating from Euro NCAP. It scored 70 percent for adult occupant protection (AOP), 84 percent for child occupant protection (COP), 57 percent for safety assist systems, and 60 percent for vulnerable road users (VRU).

The tested model was a left-hand drive version equipped with a 1.6-litre petrol-hybrid powertrain. It featured six airbags, seatbelt reminders, pretensioners, and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). The body shell was rated stable in the frontal offset test.
Adult Occupant Protection
In the frontal offset test, the passenger compartment of the Duster remained stable. Both driver and passenger dummies showed good protection for their knees and femurs. However, chest protection for the driver was rated as weak.

During the full-width rigid barrier test, chest protection for both the driver and rear passenger was marginal. In contrast, side barrier tests and more severe side pole impacts showed good protection for all critical body areas, earning maximum points in this category.
Child Occupant Protection
The Duster provided good protection for all critical body areas of both 6-year-old and 10-year-old dummies in frontal offset and side barrier impacts. The neck of the 10-year-old dummy received adequate protection in the frontal test.

The front passenger airbag can be disabled to use a rearward-facing child restraint in that seat. However, there is no child presence detection system. All designated child restraint types could be properly installed and accommodated in the vehicle.
Safety Assist Systems
The autonomous emergency braking (AEB) system performed adequately when tested with other vehicles. The rear seatbelt reminder is standard but lacks an occupant detection system in the rear seats, disqualifying it from scoring points.
The lane support system gently corrects the vehicle's path to prevent lane drifting and intervenes in critical situations as well.
Vulnerable Road Users
Protection of a struck pedestrian or cyclist's head was predominantly good or adequate. Poor results were recorded on stiff windscreen pillars and along the base of the screen.

Protection of the pelvis was poor at all test locations, resulting in no points scored. The AEB system can respond to vulnerable road users as well as other vehicles. Its response to pedestrians was adequate while its response to cyclists was good.
The third-generation Duster's arrival in India marks an important step for Renault's local manufacturing plans. While it will carry forward many features from its European counterpart, specific adaptations will be made to suit local requirements.
