Range Rover Electric Prototypes Face Extreme Testing In UAE's Harsh Climate
Range Rover Electric prototypes are undergoing rigorous testing in the United Arab Emirates. These tests, conducted in temperatures over 122°F (50°C), are part of the vehicle's development phase. The aim is to ensure the electric Range Rover can handle extreme conditions while maintaining performance and efficiency. This testing environment challenges the vehicle's thermal management system to ensure it can reliably control temperature and support optimal range.
The new thermal management system of the Range Rover Electric is being tested under harsh conditions. This system intelligently manages heat distribution around the vehicle, ensuring both cabin comfort and battery performance. The tests involve driving on challenging sand dunes, which require controlled low-speed torque. The traction control and thermal management systems work together to maintain power delivery.

Thomas Müller, Executive Director of Product Engineering, stated: "A hot climate is one of the most challenging for any battery electric vehicle, because of the need to cool the cabin and optimize battery performance at the same time. The additional challenge of driving on sand requires controlled low-speed torque, so our specially developed traction control and thermal management systems work in harmony to help ensure power delivery is unaffected."
The Range Rover Electric has been put through its paces in one of the world's toughest climates. In Sharjah’s Al Badayer desert, known for its towering dunes like 'Big Red', vehicles must complete five ascents without losing performance before moving on to further tests. The electric model successfully completed this task, demonstrating its capability in extreme environments.
The Intelligent Torque Management system plays a crucial role in these tests. It distributes wheel slip management directly to each electric drive unit, reducing torque reaction time from 100 milliseconds to just 1 millisecond. This improvement enhances traction control on fine sand, allowing for better handling and stability.

The Range Rover Electric has shown impressive results during these trials. It has surpassed previous thermal testing records set by other Range Rover models on sand. The vehicle maintained exemplary thermal performance throughout prolonged desert driving sessions, showcasing its robustness and durability.
