Randy Parker Takes Leadership Role As CEO Of Hyundai And Genesis Motor North America Starting January 2025
Randy Parker has been appointed as the chief executive officer of Hyundai and Genesis Motor North America, effective January 1, 2025. He will oversee operations in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico for Hyundai, and in the U.S. and Canada for Genesis. Parker will also manage Hyundai’s manufacturing plants in Alabama and Georgia while continuing as CEO of Hyundai Motor America.
Parker takes over from José Muñoz, who has been promoted to president and CEO of Hyundai Motor Company. Muñoz expressed confidence in Parker's leadership, stating, "Randy Parker is an outstanding leader with a proven track record for driving sales growth and effectively serving our dealer partners, customers, employees and other stakeholders." Muñoz believes that Parker will maintain the momentum in the North American market.
Under Parker's leadership since August 2022, Hyundai Motor America has seen significant sales growth. He joined the company in 2019 as vice president of national sales and was promoted to senior vice president in February 2021. His tenure marked a historic achievement as he became the first African American to lead a major OEM regional market.
Parker expressed his enthusiasm for leading Hyundai and Genesis in North America. He stated, "It’s an honor to lead Hyundai and Genesis in North America and build on our growth trajectory." He emphasized the importance of North America as a key market for Hyundai globally and outlined plans to deliver exceptional products while adapting to consumer needs.
Before joining Hyundai, Parker held various leadership roles at INFINITI North America, General Motors (GM), GM Acceptance Corporation (GMAC), Nissan, and Infiniti. At Nissan, he was division vice president for Global Light Commercial Vehicle sales and marketing based in Yokohama, Japan.
Hyundai Motor North America's Strategic Role
Established in 2018, Hyundai Motor North America (HMNA) provides strategic oversight for several regions including Hyundai Motor America, Hyundai Auto Canada, and more. HMNA also manages operations at manufacturing facilities like those in Alabama and Georgia. In 2023 alone, HMNA's dealerships sold 1.3 million vehicles across its brands.
Parker holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Texas Christian University. He completed Executive Management Programs at Harvard and Penn State. His contributions have earned him recognition on Automotive News' All-Star list in 2021 and as an Automotive News Champion of Diversity in 2024.
