Protean Electric Consortium Awarded £5.5 Million APC Grant To Advance In-Wheel Motor Technology

Protean Electric, a prominent developer of in-wheel motors, has secured a £5.5 million grant from the Advanced Propulsion Centre (APC) for its PULSE project. This initiative aims to enhance power electronics systems for net-zero products. The announcement was made by Sarah Jones, Minister of State at the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, during her visit to Protean's headquarters in Farnham.

The PULSE project will be led by Protean Electric and involves collaboration with Unipart Manufacturing and other UK-based partners. Unipart will contribute its advanced manufacturing expertise to develop a flexible assembly line capable of producing various inverters and converters, including Viritech's DC/DC 800V converter. The project also incorporates sensor technology from Transense and recycling processes from Hypromag.
