CUPRA Launches Production Of New Terramar SUV At Audi's Györ Facility
CUPRA has embarked on a new journey with the production of its latest SUV, the CUPRA Terramar, at Audi's Györ plant in Hungary. This move positions CUPRA in Europe's rapidly expanding SUV market. The vehicle will be available from November, marking a significant milestone for the brand.
The manufacturing of the CUPRA Terramar at Audi's facility benefits from shared resources and expertise, enhancing efficiency. This collaboration between CUPRA and Audi has been ongoing since 2011, beginning with the production of the Audi Q3 at SEAT S.A.'s Martorell factory. The Györ plant, employing over 12,000 people, is now set to produce vehicles for both brands.
Wayne Griffiths, CEO of CUPRA, stated: "With today’s milestone, CUPRA takes an important step forward in the brand’s journey. With the CUPRA Terramar, we will not only grow our product portfolio but at the same time help our brand grow-up by bringing the CUPRA mindset to new customers and new growing segments, without losing our rebellious and challenger spirit."
The CUPRA Terramar was unveiled at the America’s Cup in Barcelona earlier this month. It offers petrol, mild hybrid, and plug-in hybrid options. Customers can choose from nine colours, including two exclusive matt finishes: Century Bronze Matt and Enceladus Grey Matt.
Markus Haupt, Vice-President for Production and Logistics at CUPRA, highlighted: "By leveraging the combined expertise of CUPRA and Audi, we have successfully integrated and optimised our processes. This was made possible through our adaptability and the synergies within the Volkswagen Group. This project is a clear example of how joining forces benefits us all, making us more competitive and setting the stage for future collaborations that will allow us to continue to grow."
Brand Evolution
CUPRA has grown rapidly since its launch in 2018. Known for combining electrification with sportiness, it delivered over 230,000 vehicles in 2023 alone. Each model release has further defined its unique identity.
The brand's journey began with models like the CUPRA Ateca and Leon. The Formentor became its best-seller as its first exclusive development. The Born marked its entry into fully electric vehicles.
Global Presence
CUPRA's influence extends beyond cars; it's involved in sports partnerships such as FC Barcelona and Formula E racing. Its Tribe includes notable figures like director J.A. Bayona and footballer Alexia Putellas.
The introduction of the CUPRA Terramar signifies a bold step forward for the brand as it continues to expand its reach while maintaining its distinctive spirit.
