Porsche Introduces Macan EV In India, Expanding Electric Portfolio
As the automotive world shifts towards electric vehicles (EVs), Porsche is not staying behind. The German carmaker is preparing to launch the Porsche Macan EV, an electric iteration of its popular SUV.
This marks a significant move, as the Macan EV will replace the petrol-powered model as Porsche's entry-level offering in many markets. Initial bookings for the high-performance 639hp Macan Turbo EV are already open in India, with a price tag of Rs 1.65 crore, ex-showroom.
More Variants on the Horizon
Porsche plans to enhance the Macan EV lineup in India with more accessible, lower-powered versions anticipated to launch later this year. Although specific details of these variants are yet to be disclosed, speculation points towards a mid-range Macan 4S with about 500hp and a more budget-friendly, single-motor rear-wheel-drive Macan. All models, regardless of power, will share the same 100kWh battery, ensuring no compromise on the electric experience for different price points.
Petrol Variant Continues
In certain markets, including India, the first-generation petrol Macan will remain available. Despite the global shift towards EVs, there's still a strong demand for petrol vehicles in these regions.
The current petrol lineup in India features three models: the base 2.0-litre Macan at Rs 88 lakh, the 2.9-litre Macan S at Rs 1.44 crore, and the Macan GTS at Rs 1.54 crore. Although initially expected to cease sales by 2025, the discontinuation date for these models is now uncertain, indicating they may remain on sale longer than anticipated.
