Porsche Formula E Champions Pascal Wehrlein And António Félix Da Costa To Race At Daytona 24-Hour Event
Porsche works driver Pascal Wehrlein is set to make his debut at the 24 Hours of Daytona. The reigning Formula E world champion from Germany will participate in the IMSA event on January 25 and 26, driving a Porsche 963 for JDC-Miller MotorSports. His teammate, António Félix da Costa, will also compete in Florida, racing an Oreca-Gibson for Inter Europol Competition in the LMP2 class.
The Rolex 24 at Daytona marks the start of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. The 59th edition will take place on January 25 and 26, 2025, at Daytona International Speedway. Four Porsche 963 cars will be present: two from Porsche Penske Motorsport, one from Proton Competition, and another from JDC-Miller MotorSports. Wehrlein will share the No. 85 car with Tijmen van der Helm and Bryce Aron.
Wehrlein's teammate from Formula E, António Félix da Costa, is also gearing up for Daytona. He will drive an LMP2 car for Inter Europol Competition. Da Costa expressed his excitement about returning to Daytona with a championship-winning team. "Inter Europol has achieved great things in recent years," he said. "I can hardly wait to finally get started and work with the team and my teammates."
Wehrlein has already familiarised himself with the Porsche 963 during test sessions in Sebring in October 2022 and later in Daytona this November. He noted that the car reminded him of DTM vehicles he drove earlier in his career. Despite recovering from an accident in São Paulo, Wehrlein is eager to return to full speed by January.
The GTP class features several Porsche teams: Porsche Penske Motorsport fields cars #6 and #7 with drivers like Matt Campbell and Felipe Nasr. Proton Competition enters car #5 with Gianmaria Bruni among others, while JDC-Miller MotorSports runs car #85 with Wehrlein as part of their lineup.
In the LMP2 class, Inter Europol Competition's car #43 includes drivers such as Tom Dillmann and Bijoy Garg alongside da Costa. The GTD Pro class sees Proton Competition's car #20 driven by Thomas Preining and others, while AO Racing fields car #77 with Klaus Bachler.
