Porsche 911's Historic Ascent Documented In New Film Premiering At Monterey Car Week
A Porsche 911, driven by Romain Dumas, achieved a remarkable feat by reaching the summit of Ojos del Salado, the tallest volcano in the world. This accomplishment marked the highest altitude ever reached by an earthbound vehicle. The journey to this record-breaking moment spanned over four years and involved three attempts with two cars.
The documentary capturing this adventure, named after the Porsche 911 that set the record, was created by independent filmmakers TangentVector with support from Porsche. J.F. Musial, CEO of TangentVector, stated, "For over four years we meticulously recorded every part of what transpired to be an incredible human adventure and technological achievement." He added that many had tried to beat this record, but very few succeeded due to the immense challenges involved.
The film provides a detailed look into the creation of the first extraordinary car and the extreme acclimatization process. It also covers the dreams, heartache, and physical and emotional toll experienced by those involved. The documentary offers an unprecedented insight into one of the toughest records to beat.
Niko Myyrä, a videographer who was present for all three record attempts, narrates the story from its earliest days. Key team members, including leader and driver Romain Dumas and Oliver Blume, Chairman of the Executive Board at Porsche AG, contribute to the film.
The 50-minute documentary will premiere during Monterey Car Week on Friday, August 16th at the Golden State Theater in Monterey. Limited tickets are available for this event where attendees will receive special memorabilia to mark the occasion. The record-breaking car will also make a special appearance at the premiere.
