Award-Winning Journalist Petrina Gentile Appointed To Women's Car Of The Year Jury
The Women's Worldwide Car of the Year (WWCOTY) has announced the addition of Canadian journalist Petrina Gentile to its international jury. WWCOTY is unique as it is the only car awards group in the world composed exclusively of female motoring journalists. With Gentile's appointment, the jury now includes 77 judges from 53 countries.
Petrina Gentile is known for her significant contributions to automotive journalism. She co-pitched and produced the independent Canadian TV show "Car Business" for CTV and BNN, which ran for 18 seasons. In 2004, she joined The Globe and Mail, writing for its Drive section. Gentile continues to write several articles per month for Globe Drive.

In addition to her print work, Gentile appears on various television networks, including CTV, BNN Bloomberg, and CHCH Morning Live, covering the auto industry. She also reports on radio stations such as CJAD800 in Montreal and NewsTalk 1010, both national programs. Her extensive travel schedule includes testing new vehicles and attending auto shows globally.
Canada is gradually moving towards electric vehicles (EVs), although at a slower pace compared to other countries. The development of affordable EVs and necessary infrastructure remains a challenge. Despite these hurdles, the adoption rate for EVs is increasing.
There is a notable trend in Canada towards larger SUVs and trucks. Recently, Canada secured significant investments to build EV and battery plants in Ontario from companies like Volkswagen, Stellantis, and Honda. These developments are expected to boost the country's EV capabilities.
About Women's Worldwide Car of the Year
Founded by New Zealand motoring journalist Sandy Myhre in 2009, WWCOTY aims to recognise the best cars of the year while amplifying women's voices in the automotive industry. Sandy Myhre serves as Honorary President, with Marta García as Executive President.
The voting criteria for WWCOTY are based on principles that guide any driver when choosing a car, such as safety, quality, price, design, ease of driving, benefits, and environmental footprint. The jurors do not select a ‘woman’s car’ because cars are not gender-specific.
Beyond selecting the best cars of the year, WWCOTY seeks to increase visibility for women in the automotive world and ensure their voices are heard globally. The award highlights that mobility provides women with access to numerous personal and professional opportunities.
