Petersen Automotive Museum Unveils Innovations With New Summer Exhibits

The Petersen Automotive Museum will unveil four new exhibits this August, marking its largest simultaneous launch. These exhibits will display a variety of vehicles, from historical concept cars to rare hypercars and futuristic prototypes.

Opening on August 3, "Alternating Currents: The Fall and Rise of Electric Vehicles" will be supported by BMW and Clarios. This exhibit, located in the Propulsion Gallery, will trace the evolution of electric vehicles from the late 1800s to modern times. Featured vehicles include the 1896 Riker electric roadster and the 2021 Lanark DS Roadster.

Clarios, a leading manufacturer of low-voltage batteries, supports this exhibit. Their products are found in one out of three vehicles globally. The exhibit also includes the Clarios x OPTIMA Batteries Rivian R1T and OPTIMA Power Station, showcasing advancements in EV adventuring.

"Modern Concepts: Future Visions from the Recent Past" will also open on August 3. This exhibit will highlight notable concept cars produced since the museum's opening in 1994. Visitors can see vehicles like the 2002 XENO III and the 2008 Honda FC Sport.

Celebrating Supercars and Hypercars

The "Super/Hyper: The Ultimate Automobiles" exhibit will feature a rotating display of iconic supercars and hypercars. Opening on August 3, it will showcase some of the fastest and most powerful models from the 1960s to today, including a Bugatti Divo and Koenigsegg CCXR.

Waymo's Journey in Autonomous Driving

"Driven by Possibility: Waymo’s Road to Autonomous Transport" will focus on Waymo's advancements in autonomous driving technology. Located in the Production Gallery, this exhibit opens on August 3 and features Waymo’s Firefly prototype and a prototype version of Waymo’s next-generation Zeekr platform.

Petersen Automotive Museum Executive Director Terry L. Karges stated, "This near-simultaneous launch of four incredibly diverse exhibits marks a milestone for our museum." He added that these exhibits showcase all elements of the automotive world—past, present, and future.

The museum is located at 6060 Wilshire Blvd., Los Angeles. Admission is $21 for adults, $19 for seniors (62+), $13 for youth (12-17), and $12 for children (4-11). Active military with ID, personal care attendants, and children under four enter free. The museum is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
