Top Carmakers In India (October 2024) - Maruti Tops As Mahindra Retains 3rd Place
The Indian car market had a month in the black after a while as the nation celebrated both Dusshera and Diwali last month with 397,947 new passenger vehicles finding homes in October 2024.
Passenger vehicle sales grew by a marginal 1.82 per cent (7,094 units) compared to October 2023 when the nation's 15 largest carmakers (not including luxury marques) sold 390,853 cars and SUVs in the same period last year.

Month-over-month sales, on the other hand in October rose by 10.88 per cent (39,061 units) compared to the 358,886 vehicles sold in October 2023. Maruti Suzuki continued to lead the way with the carmaker sending a total of 159,591 units to people's garages last month. While Y-o-Y sales dropped by 5.03 per cent or 8,456 units compared to the 168,947 units sold in October 2022, M-o-M sales numbers were up by just over 10 per cent or 14,629 units.
Hyundai claimed the second spot once again selling 55,569 units last month. Both Y-o-Y and M-o-M metrics were in the black, the former rising by just 0.8 per cent from October 2023's 144,962 units while the latter rose by 8.74 per cent from September's 51,101 units.

Mahindra claimed the third spot once again as the firm grapples with the massive response to the Thar Roxx. Mahindra sold 54,504 new vehicles last month, a 24.7 per cent increase over the same period last year (43,708 units) while M-o-M numbers rose by 6.74 per cent compared to September's 51,062 units.
Tata took the fourth spot with 48,133 units sold last month. Tata's Y-o-Y sales dropped marginally by 0.43 per cent (210 units) compared to October 2023's 48,343 units. M-o-M numbers though rose by 17.21 per cent (7,065 units) compared to September's 41,065 units.
Toyota rounded off the top 5 with 28,138 units sold last month. Toyota's Y-o-Y metrics rose by 36.98 per cent (7,596 units) compared to October 2023's 20,542 units. M-o-M metrics also rose by 18.22 per cent (4,336 units) compared to September's 23,802 units.
