September 2024 saw 275,681 new passenger vehicles (PV) reach new homes in India as per data released by the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA). Year-over-year retail PV sales dropped by nearly 19 per cent compared to September 2023.

The drop in sales has been attributed mostly to heavy rains that swamped the country last month. Another factor for the drop in sales is 'Pitru Paksha', a 16-day period that is considered to be not to be an auspicious time to purchase new goods.

Thoughts About Retail PV Sales In September
Passenger vehicle sales were down in September as the heavy rain across the nation and an inauspicious period in the Hindu calendar saw people staying away from showrooms last month. However, with Dusshera and Diwali both falling in October, sales are expected to boom this month, which should hopefully help carmakers recover from their losses last month.
