The drop in sales has been attributed mostly to heavy rains that swamped the country last month. Another factor for the drop in sales is 'Pitru Paksha', a 16-day period that is considered to be not to be an auspicious time to purchase new goods.

Maruti Suzuki continued its domination of the Indian car market with 113,560 passenger vehicles reaching new homes last month. However, Year-over-year sales for the nation's leading carmaker dropped by 19.64 per cent (27.758 units) compared to September 2023, when Maruti sold 141,318 new passenger vehicles.

Thoughts About Retail PV Sales In September

Passenger vehicle sales were down in September as the heavy rain across the nation and an inauspicious period in the Hindu calendar saw people staying away from showrooms last month. However, with Dusshera and Diwali both falling in October, sales are expected to boom this month, which should hopefully help carmakers recover from their losses last month.
