Nissan Motorsports NISMO Secures Podium Finishes And Rookie Of The Year In 2024 Pirelli GT4 America Finale
Nissan's customer teams wrapped up the 2024 SRO Motorsports America season at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The Nissan Z NISMO GT4 racers stood out with impressive performances. Damir Hot achieved two podium finishes in the GT America races and was named GT4 Rookie of the Year. "2024 marked our sophomore season with the GT4 program, and thanks to our teams' efforts, we're now competing head-to-head with Porsche, BMW, Aston Martin, Mercedes AMG, McLaren, and Toyota," said Mike Carcamo, program director, Sports Cars, NISMO Cars and Motorsports, Nissan Motor Corporation.
Throughout the 2024 Pirelli GT4 America and GT America series, Nissan was represented by three top-tier teams fielding four Nissan Z NISMO GT4 race cars. The Indianapolis weekend began with a tech talk at Andy Mohr Avon Nissan for the Indy Z Car Club and SAE Indiana section. At the track, fans enjoyed a new product display, racing simulators, and motorsports trivia.
Flying Lizard Motorsports participated in both the full Pirelli GT4 series and two GT America series events. Damir Hot secured podium finishes in all four GT America starts and received the GT4 Rookie of the Year award. Blackdog Racing made history with a Pro-Am class victory at Sebring's fourth race of the season. Tony Gaples achieved fifth place in the Pro-Am standings, marking the highest position for any Nissan driver this year.
TechSport Racing served as the lead development team and continued to build on their experience with podium finishes at Sonoma, Road America, and Barber Motorsports Park. "With our first series win and over a dozen podium finishes this season, Nissan and NISMO thank everyone at Flying Lizard Motorsports, TechSport Racing and Blackdog Racing for their dedication. We look forward to challenging for the championship in 2025," added Carcamo.
The Pirelli GT4 America races saw varied results for Nissan's teams. In Race 1, Flying Lizard Motorsports started eighth and finished tenth; TechSport Racing's #23 car started ninth but ended twelfth; Blackdog Racing began fourteenth but improved to thirteenth; TechSport Racing's #22 car maintained its eleventh position throughout. In Race 2, Flying Lizard Motorsports improved to finish fifth from sixth; TechSport Racing's #23 car climbed from twelfth to seventh; Blackdog Racing moved up from tenth to ninth; TechSport Racing's #22 car advanced from fourteenth to tenth.
In the GT America races, Flying Lizard Motorsports excelled with their #5 car starting fourth in Race 1 and finishing second. In Race 2 they began third and secured third place again.
Future Prospects
The 2025 Pirelli GT4 America Championship is set to begin on March 28-30 at Sonoma Raceway in California. This championship remains a premier competition for privateer teams racing homologated cars without factory team participation. All races are broadcast live on SRO Motorsports' YouTube channel.
