Nissan Leads In Safety: Interstar, Townstar, Primastar Earn Top EuroNCAP 2024 Ratings

Nissan's latest Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV) lineup has received high safety ratings from EuroNCAP. The Townstar and Primastar models earned Gold ratings, with safety assist performance scores of 78% and 69%, respectively. The new Interstar, available for pre-order in the UK, achieved an even higher Platinum rating with an overall score of 84%. These results highlight Nissan's dedication to vehicle safety.

EuroNCAP's recent evaluations focused on advanced driver assistance systems and the protection of vulnerable road users. This included pedestrian safety at night, cyclist protection, and a new van-to-car crash scenario. Nissan's LCVs performed well in these tests, showcasing their robust safety features.

In the Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) category, all three vehicles scored impressively. The Townstar earned 26.8 out of 30 points, the Primastar 27.9 points, and the Interstar 25.6 points. Each vehicle was rated "Good" throughout the tests.

Nissan's Townstar and Interstar models excelled in lane support systems, receiving scores of 13.8 and 16.3 out of 20, respectively. These systems use lane departure warning technology to alert drivers when they drift out of their lane. Emergency lane keeping technology intervenes in critical situations to prevent accidents.

The vehicles' ability to detect stationary or slower-moving cars was also noted as excellent by EuroNCAP. The Intelligent Forward Collision Warning and Emergency Braking systems help avoid collisions in various scenarios.

Speed Assistance Technology

Nissan has introduced speed assistance technology across its LCV range to advise drivers of current speed limits and warn them if they exceed it. The Primastar received a score of 9/15, the Townstar 14.5/15, and the Interstar 11.4/15 in this category.

The Townstar and Interstar models use digital mapping and cameras to determine local speed limits and automatically set speed limiters accordingly. This ensures drivers remain aware of speed limits and maintain safe speeds while driving.

Occupant Status Monitoring

Nissan recognises that driver unpredictability can impact safety, making occupant status monitoring essential. Features like seatbelt reminders and attention assist technology help avoid accidents and ensure driver well-being.

EuroNCAP awarded full marks (15/15) to the Interstar and Primastar models for occupant status monitoring, while the Townstar received a score of 10/15.
