Nissan Formula E Team Gears Up With Rowland And Nato For The 2024/25 Championship

Nissan Formula E Team has announced that Oliver Rowland and Norman Nato will be their drivers for the 2024/25 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship. This pairing brings together two experienced racers, promising a competitive season ahead. Rowland had an impressive Season 10, securing two victories, including a home win, along with two pole positions and five podium finishes, ending fourth in the standings.

Meanwhile, Nato returns to Nissan after previously racing with them in Season 9. The French driver was consistently in the points and achieved the team's first podium under full Nissan ownership at the 2023 Rome E-Prix. The upcoming season will introduce the GEN3 Evo technology, which promises faster and more efficient cars than those used in previous seasons.

The 2024/25 season will feature a record 17 races, including new locations such as Miami and returning venues like Jakarta. There will also be a double-header in Monaco and the second Tokyo E-Prix, marking Nissan's home race. Pre-season testing for the GEN3 Evo cars is scheduled at Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Valencia from 4-7 November, with the season opener set for 7 December in São Paulo.

Tommaso Volpe, managing director and team principal of Nissan Formula E Team, expressed excitement for Season 11 following a strong performance last year. He stated, "We’re excited for Season 11 after a very good performance in the last campaign. We’ve refreshed our driver line-up by welcoming back Norman, who will bring his wealth of experience and performance."

Rowland shared his enthusiasm about continuing with Nissan after a successful year. He emphasised the need for consistency across race weekends to improve their standings further. "I’m excited to continue with Nissan Formula E Team after a very strong year," he said. "For next season we need to try and bring more consistency to all elements of our race weekends."

Nato also expressed his happiness about rejoining the team and highlighted their strong finish together in Season 9. He mentioned that knowing the car and team would be beneficial for immediate performance. "I’m really happy to be back with the team," Nato said. "We ended Season 9 strongly together and I’m looking to pick up where we left off."

Nissan's Commitment to Electrification

Nissan made its debut in all-electric racing during Season 5 (2018/19) of the ABB FIA Formula E Championship, becoming Japan's first manufacturer in this series. In Season 7 (2020/21), they committed long-term to Formula E through to Season 12 (2025/26). In April 2022, Nissan took full ownership of its involvement by acquiring the e.dams race team.

In June 2022, they announced that McLaren Racing would use Nissan EV powertrain technology throughout the Gen3 era. Ahead of Tokyo’s first-ever E-Prix on March 28th, 2024, Nissan confirmed its commitment to Formula E until at least 2030 as part of its Ambition 2030 electrification targets.

Formula E's Environmental Impact

The ABB FIA Formula E World Championship became the first global sport certified with a net zero carbon footprint from inception back in 2020. This was achieved by investing in climate-protecting projects across all race markets to offset emissions from each season of electric racing.

All cars in this championship are powered by electricity, serving as a platform to test and develop cutting-edge electric technology. The series promotes sustainable mobility within city centres to combat air pollution and mitigate climate change effects.

Nissan races in Formula E to showcase zero-emission electric vehicles' excitement globally while aiming for carbon neutrality by 2050 across its operations and product life cycles. They plan to electrify every new vehicle offering by early 2030s in key markets.

Oliver Rowland praised Sacha Fenestraz’s contributions during Season 10: "I also want to give my best to Sacha; I enjoyed working with him during Season 10." Nato echoed these sentiments: "Finally, I wish Sacha all the best; he’s a top guy." Both drivers acknowledged Fenestraz’s hard work and positive attitude.
