Nissan Formula E Team Announces Two-Year Technical Partnership With Marelli For Enhanced Innovation
Nissan Formula E Team has announced a new partnership with Marelli as a Technical Partner for two years. Marelli, with over a century of experience in automotive and motorsport technology, aims to innovate future mobility alongside its partners. This collaboration allows Nissan to explore further development opportunities for their cars in upcoming seasons.
Marelli's expertise in innovation and manufacturing will be showcased through this partnership. The company plans to enhance its technical contributions to electrified motorsport. Marelli branding will also feature on the rear wing of Nissan e-4ORCE 05 cars, team garage walls, and marketing platforms.
Tommaso Volpe, managing director and team principal of Nissan Formula E Team, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration: "We’re very proud to be teaming up with Marelli Motorsport, a leader in the industry. It’s fantastic to have them on board and we look forward to investigating areas for potential collaboration on control systems development."
Riccardo De Filippi, Head of Marelli Motorsport, shared his excitement about expanding their partnership with Nissan into Formula E: "We’re excited to expand our long-term technical partnership with Nissan Motor Company into its Formula E program, also proudly displaying the Marelli logo on the rear wing of both cars."
Nissan entered the ABB FIA Formula E Championship in Season 5 (2018/19), becoming the first Japanese manufacturer in the series. In Season 7 (2020/21), they committed long-term to Formula E's Gen3 era from Season 9 (2022/23) through Season 12 (2025/26). In April 2022, Nissan took full ownership of its involvement by acquiring the e.dams race team.
In June 2022, Nissan announced it would provide its EV powertrain technology to McLaren Racing throughout the Gen3 era. For Season 10, Oliver Rowland and Sacha Fenestraz will drive for Nissan in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.
Formula E's Role in Sustainable Mobility
The ABB FIA Formula E World Championship was certified as having a net zero carbon footprint from its inception in 2020. This was achieved by investing in climate-protecting projects across all race markets. The championship serves as a platform for testing and developing cutting-edge electric technology.
Formula E promotes sustainable mobility by hosting races on street circuits worldwide. This initiative aims to combat air pollution and mitigate climate change effects by encouraging electric vehicle adoption in urban centres.
Nissan's participation in Formula E aligns with its goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. The company plans to electrify all new vehicle offerings by the early 2030s in key markets. Through racing, Nissan transfers knowledge between racetrack innovations and road vehicles for improved customer experiences.
