Nissan Formula E Team Geared Up For Season 10 Finale In London
Nissan Formula E Team is gearing up for the final two races of the 2023/24 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship at the ExCel London Circuit. The team, currently fifth in the Teams' Championship, aims to secure third place as Season 10 concludes. Oliver Rowland returns after missing the Portland double-header due to illness, targeting a strong finish in front of his home fans.
The ExCel London Circuit stands out as the only half-indoor, half-outdoor track on the Formula E calendar. It weaves through the ExCel exhibition center and around Royal Victoria Docks. Key overtaking spots include Turn 1 and the Turn 10-11 chicane before re-entering indoors at Turn 16. This unique layout presents a technical challenge for drivers.
Sacha Fenestraz, in his second year with Nissan, aims to end the season positively by scoring points. He acknowledges London's track as one of the most challenging due to its technical nature and varying surfaces. "We've been in the simulator working hard ahead of the finale to ensure we have a good chance of scoring strong points and helping the squad in the Teams' Championship," he said.
Oliver Rowland expressed his excitement about returning to race after missing Portland. "I'm delighted to be back after missing the last round in Portland," he said. He looks forward to racing at a track he enjoys and performing well in front of friends and family. Despite personal connections, his focus remains on delivering a competitive performance.
Tommaso Volpe, managing director and team principal of Nissan Formula E Team, highlighted their readiness for London. "We're ready to give it everything we've got going into London in our attempt to claim P3 in the Teams' Championship," he stated. He noted that varying surfaces inside and outside make it a tricky circuit, especially if it rains.
Nissan's Commitment to Electric Racing
Nissan has been part of Formula E since Season 5 (2018/19), becoming the first Japanese manufacturer in the series. In Season 7 (2020/21), they committed long-term to Formula E's Gen3 era, running until Season 12 (2025/26). In April 2022, Nissan took full ownership of its involvement by acquiring e.dams race team.
In June 2022, Nissan announced it would supply its EV powertrain technology to McLaren Racing for Formula E's Gen3 era. Ahead of Tokyo E-Prix on March 28th, 2024, Nissan reaffirmed its commitment by signing up for Gen4 era until 2030, aligning with its Ambition 2030 electrification targets.
Track Action and Cultural Celebrations
Track action begins with FP1 on Friday, followed by qualifying at 12:20 (UTC+1) and races at 17:00 (UTC+1) on both Saturday and Sunday. Additionally, Nissan will release 'Sounds of Season 10' playlist's final edition for ExCel London Circuit by Mathias Rehfeldt on July 19th. Previous editions dedicated to Monaco, Tokyo, and Misano are available online.
Nissan Motor Manufacturing UK has had a significant presence since its establishment in Sunderland in 1984. Employing around 6,000 people and producing over 300,000 cars annually, it plays a crucial role in Nissan's operations. The plant will build three electric cars - LEAF, Qashqai, and Juke - under its EV36Zero plan.
Formula E's Environmental Commitment
The ABB FIA Formula E World Championship was certified with a net zero carbon footprint from inception in 2020. By investing in climate-protecting projects across race markets, it offsets emissions from each season of electric racing. The series promotes sustainable mobility in city centres to combat air pollution and climate change effects.
Nissan races in Formula E to showcase zero-emission electric vehicles globally while aiming for carbon neutrality by 2050 across its operations and product lifecycle. By transferring knowledge from racetrack to road, Nissan strives to enhance electric vehicles for customers worldwide.
