Uchida highlighted the longstanding relationship between Nissan and the UK, which began 40 years ago. Nissan CEO Awarded CBE

Nissan's journey in the UK started with establishing a production site in Sunderland in 1984. Production commenced two years later, in 1986. Over time, Sunderland evolved into a crucial export facility for Nissan, becoming the largest plant in UK car industry history.

In addition to its Sunderland plant, Nissan has expanded its presence across the UK. The company operates international design and R&D facilities in London and Cranfield. It also maintains a parts centre in Lutterworth and runs its UK Sales and Marketing operations from Rickmansworth.

In 2023, Uchida visited Sunderland to announce that three future electric vehicles (EVs) would be manufactured in the UK. These include the next generation Nissan LEAF and future electric versions of the Nissan Qashqai and Nissan Juke. This initiative is part of Nissan's EV36Zero blueprint for EV manufacturing.

Nissan's commitment to electric vehicles aligns with global trends towards sustainable transportation. The company's plans for new EV models reflect its dedication to innovation and environmental responsibility.

Nissan's Workforce Impact

Today, Nissan employs 7,000 people across its various UK operations. Additionally, it supports 30,000 jobs within the UK's supply chain. This extensive workforce underscores Nissan's significant economic impact on the region.

The company's ongoing investments in technology and infrastructure highlight its commitment to maintaining a strong presence in the UK market. These efforts ensure that Nissan remains at the forefront of automotive innovation.

The recognition of Uchida’s contributions through this prestigious award underscores the importance of international business relations. It also highlights how collaborative efforts can lead to significant achievements within industries.

This award not only honours Uchida but also celebrates the collective efforts of all those involved with Nissan’s operations both locally and globally.
