Nissan Joins Forces With Acciona, Bringing Electric Nanocars And Motorcycles To UK
Nissan has teamed up with Silence, a leading European electric micro-mobility vehicle manufacturer, to introduce compact and agile nanocars to urban drivers. This partnership aims to make the first step towards electric mobility more accessible. Starting in October 2024, Nissan will distribute Silence Nano S04 and e-motorcycles in the UK, following successful launches in France, Italy, and Germany.
Nissan's new business plan, The Arc, focuses on growth and competitiveness. This collaboration aligns with that strategy by leveraging partnerships to drive business transformation. Gareth Dunsmore, Managing Director of e-Micro Mobility at Nissan AMIEO (Africa, Middle East, India, Europe & Oceania), expressed excitement about expanding the partnership to the UK. He said: "Following Italy, France and Germany, I am excited to see our partnership now expanding to the UK. Through this Nissan partnership with ACCIONA, we’re ensuring that many more people across Europe have access to electric mobility and can embark on their EV journey. By opening access to Silence’s diverse range of alternative products, we are easing the EV transition by combining clean mobility with cutting-edge technology, in functional and flexible vehicles."
The Silence S04 Nanocar is designed for agility in busy city environments. It comes in two variants: L6e and L7e. The L6e variant offers a range of 109 miles and a top speed of 28mph. The L7e variant provides a range of 92 miles with a top speed of 54mph. Both models are powered by two 5.6kWh batteries that offer various charging options including direct charging and battery swapping at dedicated stations.
Carlos Sotelo, CEO of ACCIONA’s mobility business and Silence, highlighted the changing needs of urban drivers. He stated: "The needs of drivers in today’s towns and cities are changing – their commute, their attitudes to mobility, and what constitutes a realistic and efficient way for them to get around urban areas. To respond to this, we need to think smarter, smaller and lighter. Silence’s light electric vehicles (EV), partnered with Nissan’s strong distribution network, offers new, exciting, and clever options for urban mobility in Europe, shaping a more sustainable future."
The S04 Nanocar also features smart connectivity through the My Silence app. This app provides digital services such as keyless entry, location tracking, monitoring range and battery charge status. It also allows users to share access to their vehicle without swapping keys.
This partnership underscores Nissan's commitment to sustainability by offering new mobility solutions across Europe. It aims to lower the barrier for those wanting to switch to electric vehicles (EVs). By providing diverse choices and expanding into new markets, Nissan ensures that the transition to electric mobility is inclusive.
Strategic Partnerships
Nissan's recent launch of The Arc business plan includes introducing 11 new models aimed at boosting sales in the region. Strategic partnerships like this one with Silence are central to this plan. These collaborations help explore new revenue streams while accelerating the shift towards EVs.
