Mercedes-Benz Launches First VAN.EA Prototypes As Part Of Electrification Strategy
Mercedes Benz Vans is progressing with its electrification plan through the next phase of VAN.EA, the Mercedes-Benz Van Electric Architecture. From 2026, all new vans developed by Mercedes-Benz will utilise this modular and adaptable electric platform. This marks a pivotal moment as the first VAN.EA prototypes are now being tested on public roads, an essential step in transforming the van sector.
The VAN.EA framework provides a clear separation between luxury vans for private use and premium commercial vans. The private range includes exclusive VIP shuttles and luxurious limousines designed for discerning customers. Technologically, these new vans are built to accommodate diverse customer needs. They offer options like front-wheel or all-wheel drive and come equipped with the latest Mercedes-Benz Operating System (MB.OS).
In early June 2024, a specially constructed vehicle embarked on a long-distance journey from Stuttgart to the North Cape. This was to test the chassis, electric powertrain, battery, and high-voltage components. The current testing phase focuses on how all these components interact within the vehicle. The next significant milestone will be winter testing in Sweden.
Mercedes-Benz USA (MBUSA), based in Atlanta, manages distribution, marketing, and customer service for all Mercedes-Benz products in the U.S., including vans. MBUSA offers a wide range of luxury vehicles, from sporty SUVs like the GLA to flagship models such as the S-Class and the all-electric Mercedes-EQ family.
